Is Twitter likely to change under Elon Musk? As a matter of fact, will it actually change come the new leadership of Elon Musk? That’s a matter of discussion and some strong reasoning that may actually involve far more characters than the 280 limit that the famous social networking platform currently offers.
The common logic that the lesser said the better, which is so far, Twitter’s logic and DNA of operation will not do. It just won’t. There’s going to be a lot of things that will be said- if and whenever- the finest (if not, one of the finest) microblogging platforms in the world witnesses a change of guard in leadership.
There are two sides to this coin, where it stands at the moment. There’s a faction of people who truly believe that under Elon Musk’s leadership, Twitter may actually grow, get to a wider geography and area of interest than what it enjoys at present. Some faultlines may be blurred and if not, then necessarily removed under the South Africa-born innovator.
And that being said, it is also being said that under Elon Musk’s leadership, Twitter may lose its credibility where things like Free Speech are concerned.
That Elon Musk is a dogged and resilient leader is something we all know, but his politics and brand of leadership is a bit unpredictable and difficult to gauge. There’ a lot to him and the way he operates that we will all come to know once the official takeover is announced and done with.
But that being said, here are 3 POSSIBLE ways in which Twitter COULD change under the guidance and tutelage of Elon Musk:
Free Speech
The general feeling that one has about Elon Musk’s understanding of those who moderate Twitter as to what is and what isn’t legitimate (and fair) is that he is not a huge fan of a dictatorial style of governance. There’s far too much intrusion in there where Musk’s understanding of Twitter currently stands.
Doe this mean that Twitter could become a bit liberal or tolerant? These are big words, nonetheless, some things become clear when you visit what Musk himself had to say about the subject:
“I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans!”
Too much intervention, therefore, may not be that common a sight on Twitter anymore.
Twitter’s Algorithm
Twitter’s algorithm, under Elon Musk could likely become on an open source model. What this will do is that it will effectively give the freedom to Twitteratis to see the code that shows the way in which they want posts to appear on their timelines.
Here’s what Musk hasn’t been a great fan of: the fact that some posts are not whilst some are promoted rather mysteriously so.
The relevance
Needless to say, there has to be a certain relevance to what you do and how you do it. The same way, each social media platform needs to have its own relevance and sense of purpose.
Recently, a list citing the top Twitter accounts was made public. The same included the names of celebs like Bieber, Katy Perry and even former US President Obama. This caught the eye of Elon Musk who questioned the relevance of these ‘top accounts’ asking the very fact that how, in the first place, were these the numero uno handles since they hardly tweeted and posted very little content.
Under Elon Musk, therefore, we could expect the ‘spam bots’ to die out sooner than any later, if that makes any sense!
