Just as HMD Global has slashed the prices of Nokia 8 and Nokia 5, which now retail at Rs 28,999 and Rs 12,499, respectively, here comes a report which suggests that Nokia 7 Plus, the next mid-budget flagship from the company is going to be launched at Mobile World Congress 2018.
There have been a lot of rumors about the upcoming Nokia 7 Plus and from all the leaks that the smartphone has been through, one thing is for sure, it indeed exists and is going to come with a formidable package for the mid-budget segment.
The Nokia 7 Plus has been spotted on benchmark site Geekbench, revealing some key specs of the smartphone. As per the listing, Nokia 7 Plus will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 SoC under the hood, which is a big upgrade over the Nokia 7 which comes with the Snapdragon 630 processor.
Moreover, the device has scored 1636 and 5902 in Geekbench’s single and multi-core tests, respectively. The listing also highlights the fact that Nokia 7 Plus will feature 4GB of RAM and will be running on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. Details regarding the camera package and the design haven’t been revealed as of now.
That said, the hardware update deserves a mention as while the Snapdragon 630 SoC features eight ARM Cortex-A53 cores, Snapdragon 660 SoC uses eight Kryo 260 cores and with the Adreno 512 GPU, Nokia 7 Plus will have a clear edge in terms of graphics as well. On the other hand, since the regular Nokia 7 is offered in 4GB and 6GB RAM variants, we see no reason why the ‘Plus’ version won’t be also offered in two memory configurations.
As for the expected features, Nokia 7 Plus is highly likely to retain its predecessor’s USPs like 3D Glass Thermoforming technology, Zeiss Certified Image Technology, Bothie Mode and OZO Audio.
Other than that, a bigger display than the 5.2-inch one seen on the Nokia 7 is also expected to feature in the smartphone in question while it’s better to not expect a dual camera setup with the Nokia 7 Plus for now.
The Nokia 7 plus was first spotted in a teardown video of the Nokia’s Camera app on a smartphone which supported Android Oreo beta. The app’s details revealed two new devices, the Nokia 4 and Nokia 7 Plus, along with names of two other soon-to-be-released Nokia smartphones, namely Nokia 9 and the Nokia 1.
HMD Global is expected to launch the Nokia 9 at MWC 2018 and globally launch Nokia 6 (2018) at the same event, along with a prototype of the rumored Nokia 10 with Penta-lens camera setup.
