Lenovo-owned Motorola is yet to confirm its presence in Mobile World Congress 2018 but the company sure has a new lineup of smartphone lined-up for the year, one of which is the much anticipated Moto E5 Play.
Moto E-series has been the money maker for the Chinese smartphone manufacturer and after the success of Moto E4-lineup, Moto E5 and Moto E5 Play are ready for their launch in the entry-level segment.
For the unknown, Moto E5 and Moto E5 Plus were recently spotted online during certification for a 4000mAh battery on the US certification site FCC and now Evan Blass, a trusted and serial leakster, have shared renders of the Moto E5 Play which is expected to become the first smartphone in the E-series to come with the ‘Play’ tag.

Going by the renders of Moto E5 Play revealed by Evan Blass, the entry-level smartphone will come with a 5-inch display having an aspect ratio of 16:9 instead of the trendy 18:9. The E5 Play also has rounded corners as well as on-screen buttons and at the top, there’s a front-facing camera along with an LED flash.
That said, Blass did not reveal rear renders of the smartphone but is said that Moto E5 Play will come with a fingerprint scanner at the rear housed inside the Moto logo as we have seen in Moto E5’s render. On the other hand, Moto E5 Play will have a single camera sensor at the back coupled with an LED flash.
As for the hardware specifications, since a Moto E5-leak hinted towards a Snapdragon 430 chipset, we also expect Moto E5 Play to go for a Snapdragon SoC rather than the ones from MediaTek.
Coming to the launch of Moto E5 Play, the Lenovo-owned brand introduced the E4-lineup in July, last year, which makes us sure of the smartphone in subject not being unveiled during MWC 2018.
The Moto E5 Play could be limited for Verizon in the US, and the same smartphone is said to be released with a name of Moto E5 Cruise for Cricket Wireless. Moreover, it is unknown whether Lenovo-owned Motorola has plans to release the Moto E5 Play in other markets such as India or not.
There is currently no official announcement from the company on when the new Moto E5 series will be released, however, if you look closely at the renders, it comes with a date of April 3, 2018. Could it be the day on which Moto is planning to launch its new affordable smartphones?
Last year, Last year’s Moto E4 was introduced at Rs 8,999 with the Moto E4 Plus smartphone touching the budget segment with a price tag of Rs 9,999. This year, the successor’s of both these smartphones are expected to be priced even more competitively as they will be competing with the yet to be launched as well as a much-awaited successor to the Xiaomi Note 4.
