It’s been seven years since Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have been the top two mentions in Fifa’s Best Player Of The Year Awards and they have been sharing the Ballon d’Or trophy among themselves since 2008, with Kaka being the last player other than Ronaldo and Messi to lift the coveted trophy.
This year too, Cristiano Ronaldo is considered to be the hot favorite for his fifth Ballon d’Or, which would level him with his arch-rival for most number of such trophies. However, the Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi will unveil another chapter of the saga as both players will go head-to-head in the eighth edition of Globe Soccer Awards, for the Best Player of the Year trophy.
Interestingly, while Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi has been a closely-fought battle, in the Globe Soccer Awards’ history, the Portuguese leads with a tally of 3-1.
The Globe Soccer Awards acknowledge the best club director of the year as well as the best agent, together with various other excellences in the football fraternity. The ceremony is organized by European Association of Player’s Agents (EFAA) and European Club Association (ECA).
While the ceremony will also give out accolades for the best coach, best club, best player and more, the Globe Soccer Awards have successfully filled the gap between the panorama of football awards, such as Fifa awards, Golden Shoe and Ballon d’Or to mark a season of commitment and excellence at the highest possible level.
Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi, who will emerge victorious?
While the Ballon d’Or award is awarded considering the importance of on-field efforts in every department, Globe Soccer Awards acknowledges individual efforts of the players. Since Cristiano Ronaldo scored 42 goals in 46 appearances last season for Real Madrid while also becoming the first player to score 100 European and Champions League goals, Messi’s tally of 54 goals in 52 appearances, despite being better than his arch-rival, still feel inferior to Ronaldo’s.
Other nominees of the Globe Soccer Award include Neymar, Paulo Dybala, Gianluigi Buffon, Kylian Mbappe and Sergio Ramos.
On the other hand, Real Madrid is almost certain to lift the best team of the year award as they recorded the first ever European double in the history of football after lifting both the La Liga and UEFA Champions League trophies. Monaco, the Ligue 1 winners, and Manchester United are the other two nominees.
Due to Real Madrid’s successful run last season, Zinedine Zidane leads the list of best coach of the year-contenders, along with Antonio Conte, Massimiliano Allegri, and Jose Mourinho.
As for the Best Agent Award, Jorge Mendes, Alessandro Lucci, and Mino Raiola are nominated for the decoration which is scheduled for 28th December, 2017.]
Everything said and done, from what we have seen in the 2017/18 season, the Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi storyline will witness some interesting twists and turns next year as Real Madrid’s talisman has failed to perform in the ongoing La Liga campaign, having scored just twice in nine appearances.
