Parthiv Patel has replaced Wriddhiman Saha for 3rd Test against England due to latter’s thigh injury. The match is scheduled at PCA Stadium in Mohali on 26th November.
Wriddhiman Saha, who took the wicket keeping responsibility from MS Dhoni after the latter’s retirement from test cricket, suffered the above mentioned injury during the Visakhapatnam test and according to the doctors, he needs rest to prevent the injury from aggravating.
Parthiv Patel, on the other hand, is making his comeback in Test Cricket after eight years as he played his last match for the Indian Team in 2008 against Sri Lanka. The player has played reasonably well in the recent Ranji Trophy Tournament and has also recorded a century in his last match against Madhya Pradesh.
Since 2008, Parthiv Patel has performed consistently, as in the 2008-09 and 2009-10 domestic seasons, he made over 800 runs and continued his performance 2012-13 and 2013-14 by scoring 946 and 594 runs respectively. However, in the last two seasons, he scored 420 and 452 runs.
Patel has featured in 20 test matches and scored 683 runs with an average of 29.69. He made his debut as a 17 year old but couldn’t maintain his place in the main team due to inconsistent performance.
After sitting on the bench for the whole World Cup Tournament in 2011 despite being in the playing 15, this is the best opportunity for him to show the world, what a Little Guy can do on the pitch.
