Veteran actor Om Puri insulted the martyrs of the Uri attack by saying that nobody forced them to join the army, it was their decision and nothing can be done to change that.
Om Puri was invited on the discussion panel at a News Channel to talk on the recent ban on Pakistani actors by Indian Motion Pictures Producers Associations after the attacks on Army Base at Uri which killed 19 Indian soldiers and other militant activities happening on Pakistan soil against India.
5 things that Om Puri said which has really put a dent on his reputation among Indians:
1. Nobody told them to join the Indian Army and forced them to pick weapons.
With due respect Sir, the amount of money you get in your profession is equal to a soldier’s per annum income. So, if you can’t acknowledge their efforts then I request you to atleast give them the respect they deserve. Their sacrifices are the only reason that you are sitting at your home making these hilarious comments while the soldiers are performing their duty in lethal conditions.
2. Pick 15-20 suicide bombers from India and send them to Pakistan for blasts.
“An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind” This is what Mahatma Gandhi said and the whole nation believes in this statement. So, we all as a Nation are trying to eliminate terrorism not promote it.
3. Does the country want the Indian -Pakistan condition to end like Israel and Palestine and fight for ages?
First of all sir, India has never supported war as the only option but now the conditions are different. We have been in war with Pakistan for more than 60 years and are fed up with all these diplomatic solutions.(Persuasion will not persuade fools)
4. How can India declare war against Pakistan as several Indian relatives live there and vise versa. India will eventually make the soldiers kill their own families.
Being Indian, this statement is somewhat sentimental for us so, we won’t say much rather we want you to know that for a soldier his country comes first and they will do anything and everything to protect it from a threat.
5. Reacting on the ban of Pakistani actors in India, he said that this will not change the situation and will affect the families of these actors. If India really wants to boycott the Pakistani artists then they should cancel their visas as there is nothing wrong in working in India with a Visa.
This is the only statement that says nothing wrong with the context, but the decision by IMPPA can be seen from a different point of view. It is for the betterment of Pakistani actors that they are banned from working in India. We live in a country where cricketers face violent criticism on their defeat with Pakistan and the current matters relate to the security of the Nation, so, it was not safe for these actors to live here as anything could happen here.
In an earlier statement he has also branded politicians as uneducated and incompetent people in an event at Ramlila Maidan.
Social Media is on fire and it is evident from the following tweets:

These statements came from a person whose wife accused him for domestic violence and he shifted with his second wife whom he was planning to divorce before the case. A person who could not handle his own personal life has no right to comment on how a nation should work.
