Positive News From India: Cleanest City Of The Country, Indore, Now Also The First “Water Plus” City!

Life – minus water= no life without this important life resource! But, Indore+this important life resource= India’s first water plus city!

If, in case, you are confused about the equation then let us make it clear, it’s no rocket science. The city that is famously known as the little Mumbai of Madhya Pradesh or to put it simply, Mumbai #2 has just put a latest feather in its cap.

Not just the city that is considered the cleanest city of the entire country, Indore has now become the first water plus city of India. At a time where not a single day goes by without hearing about just how scarce has water become in the country and in its furthermost regions, here is Indore doing what it does best: taking the countrymen by sheer surprise.

Gone are the days where one would worry about a paucity of water in a city that’s second to none where it comes to great hygiene and sheer cleanliness- not India’s strongest points yet- today, Indore is a changed city.

At a time where much of the discussion about India’s progress and urban development still very much rests with a Delhi (the country’s national capital) or Mumbai or the IT and tech hubs like Bangalore and Hyderabad, it is heartening to see that with the rise of cities like Indore, the discussion about India’s success is widening (than ever before).

That being said, just what and did Indore become a city with water surplus and what challenges did it take for the beating heart of central India to accomplish something most would not have known?

Indore, the state’s commercial capital, has set an example for other cities, he said.

“Heartiest congratulations to the citizens of Indore as it becomes the first SBM (Swachh Bharat Mission) Water+ certified city under #SwachhSurvekshan2021. Indore has been an example for the whole nation for its determination and dedication towards cleanliness. May it continue to bring glory to the state,” Mr Chouhan said in a tweet.

Swachh Survekshan is an annual survey of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation in cities and towns across India launched as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission.

Informing about the work done to achieve this tag, Indore district collector Manish Singh said, “According to the guidelines of Water Plus Protocol of Swachh Survekshan, 1,746 public and 5,624 domestic sewer outfalls in 25 small and big nullahs were tapped by the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) which also freed the city’s Kanh and Saraswati rivers from sewer lines.”

Though that said, what’s baffling, and in a positive sense, of course, is that, in present capacity, as much as 110 million litres of water is currently being treated in the city of Indore thanks to several sewage treatment plants, which, on present number, measure up to 7.

Now if that’s not your dose of positive news then one wonders, what is?

A city famously known for its distinct contribution toward India’s massive culinary culture, perhaps it’s time to read Indore a bit differently: not just a city of food; rather a city that has made a reputation for, time and again, pleasantly surprising the rest of its countrymen and women with amazing developments that are here to stay.
