LG Q6 Review: Bezel-Less Design, Flagship Features But Within A Budget

LG Q6 has been launched in India with a price tag of Rs 14,990 and this is the first smartphone from the LG Q6 Series of mid-rangers that are focused on ending the reign of Chinese Manufacturers in the segment.

LG Q6 is a mid-tier smartphone that offers slim bezel, an almost edge-to-edge display as well as SD 435 SoC, combining the aesthetic of flagship G6 with the mid-budget segment’s leading processor, offering benchmark results and battery efficiency. This alone is a big selling point for LG Q6, because other than Chinese smartphone brands that are hard to purchase in Non-Asian markets, the only other phones with bezels this slim are the G6 and Samsung Galaxy S8, both of which are flagships from their respective companies and cost quite a bit more than the LG Q6.

Coming to the segment that LG Q6 will be targeting, a bloodbath has been triggered due to recent launches like Redmi Note 4, Moto G5 and Lenovo K8 Note, and squeezing itself into the competition is not going to be an easy task for the LG Q6.

But it seems to have the perfect combination of ‘everything and everything’, sans a fingerprint scanner and let’s see how well it has answered the competition!!

What we like about LG Q6

  • 13MP rear camera focuses on objects rather quickly, and gives accurate colors having decent contrast. While it suffers from overexposure in bright situations but it can be tweaked by decreasing brightness, even in auto mode. In short, this is one of the best camera units in this segment.
  • 5.5-inch (2160 x 1080) FHD+ FullVision Display is the best in this segment and offers great viewing angles as well as sharp and crisp visuals, helping LG Q6 to offer an immersive gaming and video streaming experience.

  • Optical image stabilization works just like flagship units while recording videos
  • As for the front camera in LG Q6, while it doesn’t seem to impress on paper, real-time results are way better than most of the devices in this segment.
  • While the frame of LG Q6 is made of 7000 series aluminum, plastic inserts are seamlessly infused in the device making it easier to hold with one hand.
  • The SD 435 SoC is acceptable in this segment and multitasking with lighter apps feels like a walk in the park. There are no lags or frame drops either.
  • The 3000mAh battery, while a little tiny compared to the competition, still manages to run the device for a full day of moderate usage.

What we don’t like about LG Q6

  • Always On Display and fingerprint reader have been axed
  • The SD 435, being a mid-tier SoC will hinge a little while running heavy games like Asphalt 8 and Mortal Kombat X.

Verdict

Recommending LG Q6 to our readers is the easiest thing we have or will do today as the device might look a little on the pricey side, but those Rs, 14,990 are perfectly justified by its premium looks and the 5.5-inch FHD+ FullVision Display. Moreover, the cameras perform way better than most of the competitors and LG Q6 comes with the most preferred SoC, under the hood, in this segment.

Unless a fingerprint scanner is a deal maker for you, LG Q6 is one of the best smartphones available in the market and it is definitely a device worth having.
