12 Natural Home Remedies For Bee Stings

Majority of people have been a victim of the wrath of a bee sting. Surprisingly, a bee sting is very painful and irritating and makes your skin swell but it heals quickly on its own mostly. Bee stings result in a strong burning sensation, swelling as well as itching on the skin however if a person has allergies it can have some side-effects. Interestingly, there are some home remedies for bee sting which are quite helpful in alleviating the effects:

1. Removing The Stinger – Home Remedies For Bee Sting

The first and foremost thing which you need to do is extract the stinger out with the help of a needle or your fingernail. Wash the area with water to make sure that there is no remaining bee venom on your skin. 

2. Ice Pack

Take an ice pack and place it directly on the affected area and hold it for 10-15 minutes. If you don’t have an ice pack, take 5-6 ice cubes and wrap in a soft cloth and use it. This will bring an immediate relief from the pain & swelling. Do not touch the ice directly on the skin as it can damage the affected area further.

3. Garlic – Home Remedies For Bee Sting

Garlic is a great pain reliever. Just crush 2 cloves of garlic and squeeze the juice of it on the sting. Place the crushed pieces on the affected area and cover it with a cloth for some time. The garlic will suck away all the pain and swelling.

4. Baking Soda

Another very effective method is baking soda. Mix a tablespoon of baking soda with few drops of water, make a thick paste and apply it on the affected area and cover it with a bandage. Leave it for 15 minutes and then remove it. You can use it 2-3 times in a day, baking soda helps neutralizing the bee venom and bring relief to the itching, pain, and swelling.

5. Apple Cider Vinegar

You can also dab a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and apply it on the bee sting as it can ease away the pain and venom from the body.

6. Toothpaste

It may sound weird to you but toothpaste can also neutralize the bee venom, just apply a very small amount of it on the affected area and it will soothe the irritated skin.

7. Essential Oil

Essential oil is known to have great healing properties. However, we would recommend that you should mix a few drops of essential oil with coconut or olive oil and apply it with cotton on the bee sting. Tea tree, lavender, aloe vera, thyme, rosemary are some of the examples of essential oils that can be used.

8. Calamine Lotion – Home Remedies For Bee Sting

Calamine lotion reduces the itchiness and the pain associated with the bee sting. Also, it’s cool texture soothes the skin which is burned by the sting.

9. Honey

Honey is an age-old remedy that has been passed on to generations as far as bee sting is concerned. Just apply a small amount of honey on the sting area and cover it with a soft bandage, leave it for an hour. Honey helps in alleviating the pain & itchiness.

10. Lemon

Take a fresh lemon and slice it into half, put it on the sting area with flesh side down. Press it gently on the area and let the juice & flesh absorb the pain and itchiness.

11. Cucumber

Cucumber has soothing properties; it has a natural astringent which shrinks the body tissue and soothe the skin. Just take a slice of a freshly cut cucumber and rub it gently on the affected area until the pain goes away.

12. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is also a great soothing agent. You can cut a small leaf, wash it properly, and peel the outer part of it to get the white gel. Rub the gel gently on the bee sting and you will get instant relief. 

As said earlier, most bee stings heal on its own and not dangerous. It can be treated with these home remedies for bee sting mentioned above. However, if you are allergic to the bee venom, it can be life-threatening.
