Levi Strauss – The Inventor of The Famous Jeans

Few garments have accompanied as many generations worldwide as jeans. Whether man or woman, young or old, almost everyone has at least one pair of jeans in their closets. We owe the robust blue jeans which have blossomed from simple work trousers to real cult objects to Levi Strauss.

Here are 8 facts about Levi Strauss:

1. Levi Strauss (originally Lob Strauss) was born on February 26, 1829, to Jewish parents in Buttenheim in Germany. In 1847, after the death of his father, he emigrated to America with his mother and two sisters for an economic need. His two half-brothers had moved to America two years earlier and founded a textile trade in New York. Levi Strauss initially worked thereafter in immigration.

2. In 1853 Levi Strauss moved to San Francisco, where he founded his first textile wholesaler. His assortment was primarily aimed at the gold miners, who were then drawn to the west of America after the first gold discoveries.

3. In 1873, together with his business partner, tailor Jakob Davis, he developed robust denim trousers with rivets. This laid the foundation stone for the success story of blue jeans, which later conquered the world. He also sold bedding, purses, and handkerchiefs along with his famous Jeans.
