Easy Home Remedies For Dry Scalp

1. Dandruff

Dandruff is caused due to the yeast which is produced by our scalp which accumulates and takes the shape of a flake. They are basically a bunch of dead skin cells.  

2. Dry Scalp

Whereas dry scalp is lucidly caused by the dryness in your scalp area.  You can get it when your scalp is unable to produce oil naturally and in sufficient quantity to keep your skin lubricated.

You need to first establish what is the problem and then look for its suitable solution. 

Home Remedies For Dry Scalp

1. Coconut Oil

Usage of coconut oil in hair care has been around for centuries. It has an antibacterial and antifungal property that work wonders with dry scalp. It also reinstates the required moisture that your hair needs.  

Plus it is very easily available making it the most convenient home remedy for dry scalp. 

Heat the coconut oil, massage it into your scalp and leave it there for 10 minutes before you go for your head bath.  

2. Apple cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is available in most kitchens and so it is an apt home remedy for dry scalp. It has an antimicrobial property that aids in eliminating fungus and bacteria that causes itchiness. Additionally, its anti-inflammatory characteristic exfoliates and treats your dry scalp. 

Create a mix with two parts of water and one part of apple cider vinegar. Apply it in your scalp for 20 minutes. Wash it post that.  

3. Bananas

Bananas are the most common fruit available in every household which can be used as a home remedy for dry scalp. They are high on nutrients and a great moisturizer with that additional antimicrobial property.

Mash a banana then add olive oil or coconut oil and apply the paste in your scalp. You can wash your hair 15 minutes after applying the paste.

4. Witch Hazel

For all who do not know, witch hazel belongs to the Hamamelidaceae family of flowers which is widely used in skin and hair care products. This product is used to subside the inflammation caused by dryness. The astringent property of these flowers also provides a soothing effect to the irritated scalp. 

Mix one portion of witch hazel with two portions of water or carrier oil – massage it well into your scalp. Leave it there for 5 – 7 minutes and then wash it off. 

5. Yogurt and Eggs

The richness of protein and fats in eggs can prevent the untimely wear and tear of the scalp cells. Whereas, yogurt is known to exfoliate your skin and give it that fresh feel. 

A mix of a few spoons of unflavoured yogurt and a well-beaten egg is also a great home remedy to get rid of dry scalp.
