For a city that is fondly described as the famous ‘Pink’ city of India, it can be said in no uncertain terms that Jaipur is witnessing anything but the pink of health. There’s a lingering sense of fear about the dreaded COVID 19 virus. Those who have it, have no other option but to grapple and deal with it. Those who don’t, worry constantly whether they’d be grief-stricken by the dangerous condition. The morbidity surrounding the Coronavirus is such that countless lives have been lost in the past month and a half in the very country that was not too long ago, going gung-ho about the efficacy of its vaccine. And this isn’t meant to level any rebuke or disrespect toward those who have worked tirelessly hard toward finding an antidote to the virus.
That being said, what didn’t make for pleasant news in the city of Jaipur was ruckus that recently took place in a hospital. The matter concerned itself with the demise of as many as four COVID patients.
As facilities protested, and understandably so, the death of each of the four COVID patients, things got out of hand and things took a steamy turn in the hospital, with things going as far as the cops being involved at the scene.
Purely on humanitarian grounds, the loss of a patient, irrespective of any disease is bound to fetch loathsome and remorseful reactions from the part of the family. Then on top of it, no one wishes to see a close family member suffer on account of the plight of COVID 19.
But in midst of this episode, the key question was this- just why was there commotion at the Jaipur-bound private hospital?
It turns out that the protesting family members alleged that there was absolutely no one to change the oxygen cylinders. The said issue was communicated by the aggrieved family members to the police.
And as it turns out, the SHO Kalwar Police Station, Gurudutt Saini (Station House Officer) too shared that while oxygen was available there was no staff to replace the cylinders at that moment.
In a statement issued to the public, the following is what was told on the matter:
“Four COVID patients died at the hospital on Tuesday night. Their family members gathered and alleged that that there was no staff to change oxygen cylinders which led to the deaths.”
Now, if this is indeed true, then it’s simply stunning and disgusting. Imagine the plight of those who suffered endlessly! There was oxygen but no staff to replace the cylinders. Ever heard of the term horrific- then this is it.
Furthermore, the police official stated that though the family members created a sense of furore (and understandably so) at the hospital, they were later pacified.
But what’s most interesting is this development- so far, no formal case has been registered.
Can you imagine? In the first place, how could the private hospital act in such a negligent manner? Imagine if this was to happen to any one of us. What would happen to us and where would we go.
