Maruti Suzuki Swift Limited Edition Launched: What New Does It Offer?

This is not the new Maruti Suzuki Swift 2018, if that what you were looking for, however, as the company’s most beloved and highest selling product comes close to an end of its life cycle, the Maruti Suzuki Swift Limited Edition has been launched in India with prices starting from Rs 5.45 Lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

But what exactly is this new edition of not the new model? If this is the question that is eating you up, let us tell you that Maruti Suzuki Swift Limited Edition is just a makeover of the decade-old Swift that entered its third generation in the year 2010.

Mechanically, the Maruti Suzuki Swift Limited Edition remain exactly the same as both the petrol and diesel (Rs 6.34 lakhs) powered variants comes with the same engines which are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. While the oil-burner produces 75PS/190Nm, the petrol engine pumps out 84PS/115Nm. The petrol engine still returns a claimed mileage of 20.4 km/liter, while the diesel offers 25.2kmpl.

That said, there is a host of cosmetic changes that make Maruti Suzuki Swift Limited Edition a V variant without the standard audio system but with an all-new accessory kit, just like the Swift Glory edition.

Price at Rs 5.44 lakhs, for petrol, and Rs 6.34 lakhs, for the diesel variant, the Limited edition is Rs 45,212 more expensive than the LXI optional (O) variant and Rs 20,652 more than the LDI (O) variant, respectively.

But what do you get for this extra premium?

You get new decals across the doors, bonnet, and roof (for a sporty look) and the cabin has been spruced up with matching dual-tone upholstery with the exteriors for the seats and steering wheel. Maruti has also added a new touchscreen infotainment system seen in the Baleno, Ignis, and S-Cross, which supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth connectivity.

The infotainment system is certainly welcomed in the Maruti Suzuki Swift Limited Edition, considering its positioning between the base LXi/LDi and mid-tier VXi/VDi variants. It gets complimented with newly updated speakers offering extra bass, while new carpet mats and rear power windows complete the makeover of the third-gen Swift’s last stint.

While the Limited Edition package can only be bought with the compulsory add-on pack that costs Rs 53,074 and comes in one paint scheme – white, you must be wondering why the pricing of LE is Rs 13,000 merrier than the standard V variant. That’s because of Maruti removing the standard music system and replacing it with a new one.

Why Maruti Suzuki Swift Limited Edition?

While there is nothing as appealing for the buyers to buy the Limited Edition rather than waiting for the 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift, the most constructive reason behind this new launch could be an attempt at clearing stocks of the older model.

That said, while the 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift is expected to come with an automatic manual transmission coupled with a 1.2 litre K-Series petrol apart a 1.3 litre DDiS turbocharged diesel as well as a 1.0 litre Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engine, it would still be interesting to see how the market reacts to the launch of Maruti Suzuki Swift Limited Edition, ahead of the generation update.
