The month of July might not have begun on a cracker of a note for Northern Europe, especially where it comes to countries like Finland. So the question is what exactly is the news from the vantage point and why are there tense vibes in the country famous for its Northern lights, Finnish spas, and an intrepid love for rally racing? Well, as it turns out, the COVID cases in Finland are on the rise. And that’s not any random piece of news; the thing is, COVID cases in Finland are on the rise again!
As a matter of fact, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health has addressed some concern in the country, on the issue of rising COVID cases in Finland, with the government body holding weekly briefings regularly for quite some time.
Now this brings us to a question. Statistically speaking, just where have the COVID cases in Finland reached so as to generate an alarm? When one speaks of the previous month, i.e., June, then from the exact period of June 14-to-20 and then, from June 20-27, the cases increased by as many as 400.
The exact figure, with regards to the above being, 947.
But what may have contributed to the rise in the COVID cases in Finland? Well, believe it or not, but sources have attributed the same to the world-famous sporting event of Euro 2020, with many Finns returning from Russia reportedly bringing back the infections so as to have caused an alarm.
To speak in precise terms, there were no fewer than 4,500 Finns that had travelled to Russia in order to attend a sporting event, which is considered one of the premier fiestas in the world of Football and a crown among the many leagues in Europe.
But upon returning, it was found out that as many as 386 Finns had tested positive for the virus whilst transmitting it to 50 others. And by the very end of the last months, things, as a result, took a turn for the worst in the country.
That being said, what is important to note is which parts of Finland have seen a surge in cases? To that end, it’s worthwhile noting that cities like Vantaa, regions like Southwest Finland, Espoo and Pirkanmaa were severely hit.
For a country that had so beautifully managed the crisis earlier in 2021, it can be said for certain that there’s a genuine need to strive for improvement where the containment of COVID cases in Finland are concerned.

Having said that, here’s what the director at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health had to say on what’s happening in the country:
“I’d abide by the government’s recommendation to avoid all needless travel [overseas]. It’d be good to look into the possibility to travel domestically instead of overseas. People have generally followed the rules fairly well and gotten tested. The infections have been detected and [the people] placed in quarantine. Most of the further infections are within the family or inner circle. It looks like the situation is under control at least at this very moment, but it may be that we’ll have to monitor for another week to see what we’re dealing with.”
To conclude, if there was a time to shrug of any kind of slackness and tread cautiously, then that time is now!
