The First Hydrogen Truck Successfully Tested In Switzerland!

The need of the hour is to put a bit of change in the way we communicate, eat, and travel. Gyms, health spas and diets are staple existential realities of urban living. The same way creating useful interface by virtue of self-help books, Internet discourses and life advice or counseling have become a part and parcel of our day to day living. And while, the better part of the world around us, we may have come to note, has begun to eat and live healthily, there’s also some sparkling change being put to the way the world travels or commutes.

Had that not been the case, the push toward E or Green mobility, by virtue of electric cars, would never have come- agreed? Yet, at the same time, one’s also constantly pushed the envelope of urban mobility.

This, precisely, has led to the advent of relevant creations like hydrogen trucks and hydrogen-powered cars. And guess what? The first of its kind hydrogen truck in Switzerland was tested only recently and to good effect.

So who are the forces behind the hydrogen truck in Switzerland; who got this novel idea out in the first place in the renowned mountainous European nation?

Conceptualized and created by Gebruder Weiss, which actually happens to be the world’s oldest transport and logistics company, the hydrogen truck in Switzerland is not only a spacious creation, but one marked by distinct utility.

And just how is that?

The maiden hydrogen truck in Switzerland is designed to carry upto 25 tonnes of goods and also has a range of up to 600 kms.

What also came to light was a media statement delivered by none other than Wolfram Senger-Weiss, the company’s CEO, who in the event of the landmark step up in Switzerland had the following insights:

The coronavirus pandemic has diverted attention away somewhat from the climate change challenge, yet the logistics sector is continuing its work with manufacturers to find alternative ways of powering vehicles. With the arrival of our first hydrogen truck, Gebrüder Weiss has once again demonstrated that it also takes a leading role when it comes to sustainable solutions. Our aim is to gain experience using this technology to help us prepare for a situation where it may see wider use.

That being said, a report on Stat Times also delved into the details of the bus and what went into its creation:

The Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell is a 36-tonne truck designed to transport around 25 tonnes of goods with a range of around 600 kilometers. The truck is powered by a 350 kilowatt electric motor, which is supplied with electricity produced by means of water chemically reacting with oxygen.

What’s exciting to think about is just how thrilling a feat might it be to try the bus or get behind the wheels of this distinct creation. As it is, it’s not always that one comes to discover something as unfamiliar as a hydrogen truck. Imagine the driving experience nestled in the most surreal and captivating snow-clad mountains (the legendary Swiss alps)!
