A Not So Flattering Piece Of News Regarding COVID 19 In Finland

As much of the western world gears up to embrace the holiday season, with the forthcoming festivities associated with Xmas and winter vacations have all but knocked on the doors, Finland has witnessed a familiar not so flattering scenario.

A scenario that must be avoided at all costs, a situation that damaged much of the planet in the wake of the COVID pandemic, leaving some nations, in some cases, eternally ruptured where the socio-economic sphere of life stand.

Having said that, even as things seemed settled for a bit more than a quarter of a year in what’s been the year of Sanna Marin, the first woman PM of Finland. But where it stands at the moment, then much of what Finland is facing is down to the fact that those who aren’t vaccinated need to take a good hard look at themselves. No better time than now.

So how is that and what’s exactly happening right now in the country known for its penchant for sauna and motor sports?

The sudden surge much toward the end of the year has got the country thinking and perhaps rightly so. Let’s delve into the details of this story, the following inputs having been taken from the revered Helsinki Times:

As per the government reports and news updates, there are two clear sections – much like the rest of the world- of the Finnish society- one that’s been vaccinated and the other, that is yet to. The sudden spike in COVID 19 cases in Finland is down to the latter.

But how is that, one might ask?

At this point in time, no fewer than 77 per cent of the new COVID cases are- according to confirmed sources- due to those Finnish patients who haven’t yet received the vaccination. Is there some scorn from the side of the government toward those who would surely have taken the COVID vaccination drive lightly?

Lightly in the sense that many simply were just lackadaisical in their approach toward getting the COVID vaccine when all they should have done was to have gotten inoculated in the first place?

All of that said, the following is what

The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Tuesday announced it is recommending a third vaccine injection for a considerable share of the population: all over 60-year-olds, all residents of care and nursing facilities regardless of age and over 12-year-olds with medical conditions exposing them to serious forms of the coronavirus disease.

“Although a large share of the population retain a very good protection against the coronavirus disease for at least six months, the protection appears to decline more rapidly in medical risk groups and the elderly,” said Hanna Nohynek, a chief physician at THL.

“They additionally have a higher risk of to develop a serious coronavirus disease due to their medical condition or age.”

The above told, what’s also important to note is that, where it stands at the moment, then no fewer than 77,000 individuals in the country have already received the third dose of the vaccine.
