One of the more interesting pieces of news from Germany happens to concern its legendary Bundeswehr. In other words, it is known as the German Army. One of the most remarkable facets about Germany’s Bundeswehr, which measures up to no fewer than 2,62,000 soldiers- is that those who can serve in it need not always or necessarily be Germans. As a matter of fact, Poles, French, and Jews belonging to other countries can also serve in the revered German army, renowned for several key military actions as well as its participation in many peacekeeping missions around the world.
And where it concerns the current moment of time, then it can be said that the Bundeswehr is playing a crucial role in helping Afghans arrive in Germany. These are those local Afghans that had served in the Bundeswehr in their country but now seek asylum in Germany.
That being told, as a matter of fact, what’s critical to recollect is that ever since the year 2015, Germany has opened its borders toward accepting a huge number of asylum seekers. The current German population consists of several displaced and homeless, who had suffered in several parts of the world, though most noticeably, the Middle East.
Tens and thousands of asylum seekers whose homes were ravaged in wartime Libya, Syria, Lebanon and other states in the Middle East started arriving in the beating heart of Western Europe a little over half a decade back in time.
And now, one notes that the Bundeswehr is helping a lot many Afghans to start all over again, i.e., begin a new life in the famed Angela Merkel-land, which set an example in the entirety of Europe toward accepting the countless many who were left without a place called home.
But the key question is- just how is the Bundeswehr doing all of that?
In its report on the key issue, DW.com happened to highlight some interesting updates on the notable development:
The first six members of Afghan personnel, who worked with the German military during their time in Afghanistan, have arrived in Germany with their families, German news magazine Der Spiegel reported on Monday.
A total of 23 individuals — which includes children — were flown out of the city of Mazar-i-Sharif in the north of the country by Turkish Airlines, Spiegel said. Another 30 are expected in the coming days.
That being said, the key reason why the Afghan section of the Bundeswehr is coming to the rescue of these Afghanistanis is simply down to the fact that many fear for their lives after the Taliban has, reportedly, regained control over different parts of a country that often finds itself war-hit and severely so, on many an occasion.
Here are more details as published on DW.com as to why many are currently fleeing the country:
US and allied forces are in the process of leaving Afghanistan, with the plan to complete the withdrawal by September 11, some 20 years after the invasion began.
Locals who worked with the occupying forces have been branded “traitors” by the Taliban, whose reign was brought to an end by the invasion.

To conclude, it must be noted that the German government has increased the scope of its protection program, in a bid to come to the aid of those who wish to flee Afghanistan; for, after all, these are lives that risked theirs in the line of service for Germany.
And moreover, there can not be a better way to repay someone’s arduous efforts than helping a life, especially at a time where one feels the risk of a direct threat to his very survival, or to put it simply, feels most vulnerable!
