Complete Lockdown Announced In Karnataka For A Fortnight!

Given the rising cases in this deadly second wave of the COVID 19 pandemic, there’s perhaps hardly a region in the country that hasn’t been hit in India. Day in and day out, there comes a news about something having gone torrentially wrong with the COVID situation in several of India’s leading cities. And this isn’t ordinary news by any stretch of the imagination as big urban cities- whether one talks about a Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, or Chennai- are massive corporate hubs; they are lifelines to India’s GDP growth and above anything else, employ tens of hundreds of thousands.

If anything happens to the working individuals; the bread-earners of a family, then things simply fall apart. Perhaps that is why no amount of chances can be afforded by any city especially at a time where things have taken a turn for the worse.

That being said, Karnataka, home to Bangalore, such a prominent IT centre of the country has finally announced a lockdown in the days that follow after having deliberated the idea for a while.

Therefore, it must be duly noted that the entire state of Karnataka will be persisting with a complete lockdown for a period no fewer than a fortnight, starting from the tenth of this month.

The lockdown in Karnataka is final and the news was just confirmed by venerable news outlets a short while ago.

Moreover the lockdown in Karnataka is due to begin from May 10 of this month and shall last until the end of 24. The key reason behind the CM announcing the lockdown in Karnataka is the growing number of infections, with the state being among the most widely hit as far as the second wave of COVID 19 goes in the country.

Karnataka, as a matter of fact, has already reported no fewer than 4,90,58 cases thus far with hospitals running in full capacity and tackling the burgeoning crisis that everyone would love to see die out soon.

That being said, a news from Business Standard happened to report the following in addition to the above:

he Supreme Court Thursday said the country needs to be prepared for the third wave of COVID-19 which experts say could be more harmful, especially for children, and emphasised upon the need to create buffer stock of oxygen. It asked the Centre not to reduce oxygen supply to Delhi from 700MT till further orders.

Malls, shopping centres, libraries, bio-diversity parks and the zoological gardens or other areas meant for public recreation shall continue to remain closed for another fortnight as part of the lockdown in Karnataka.

But all of that being said, how are the other states faring in India at this point in time whilst the second wave is consuming anything and everything in its wake?

Apart from Karnataka, the four other most affected states in India happen to be- Maharashtra (with 4,942,736 cases), Kerala (with 1,743,932 cases), Uttar Pradesh (with 1,425,919 cases), and then Tamil Nadu (with 1,297,500).

Some of the commonest issues, but one that the state authorities and bodies are working hard to fix, in each of these states pertain to the availability of medicines as well as the supply of medical oxygen.

One can only hope that things turn for the better in the days that follow.
