ISI, i.e., Inter Services Intelligence of Pakistan and R&AW, Research and Analysis Wing of India are two of the strongest intelligence agencies in the sub-continent, two giant intelligence forces that have always liked to have an upper hand over the other since the countries they represent are often always locked in a cross-territorial dispute.
In the realm of Geopolitics, Intelligence plays as big a part in defining narratives as does the art of Diplomacy, called ‘Kutneeti Shastra,’ in Hindi.
In fact, things are as bitter at the moment between India and Pakistan as they’ve never been before. It all started with the massive 2016 dispute over the Pulwama attacks, which would later end in embitterment resulting in the Balakot strikes.
Then, in between, came the sad and dreadful demise of India’s CRPF Jawaans, 40 of them dead in February 2019. Pak-based terror groups, in the end, claiming the responsibility of the attacks.
Now, truth is, the Inter Services Intelligence, i.e., the ISI, has always interfered with India’s affairs. How? In the past, an Indian Diplomat working in Pakistan’s High Commission, in Islamabad was arrested for working under cover for the ISI. Later, she was given a three-year term for espionage and clandestine activities having been involved with the Pakistanis for acts against her own country, India.
Though that isn’t the only instance where ISI has interfered with India, the country running its own agents in Pakistan, in retaliation. We know for a fact that Ravindra Kaushik was working deep under in Pakistan before the formation of Bangladesh, the legendary 1971 operation for which India is yet to credit heroes like Ram Ji Kao, among the real candidates for the Bharat Ratna, albeit one who’ll never be considered fitting to get India’s highest civilian award, but again that debate is for another day.
What we need to understand today is that ISI is trying to get deep into India, interfere with its working and get to the bottle of the supply chain logistics system that deals with the flow of arms and amunition.
For this very purpose, the eyes of India’s security agencies, including the Doval-led NSA are transfixed upon this mayhem-maker from Pakistan.

So now comes the question as to what exactly is the ISI trying to do in India and to what extent can they manipulate things in the Narendra Modi-led country?
A report from Network 18 news had the following to share, which sounds both alarming and dangerous:
In an exclusive conversation with CNN-News18, top National Directorate of Security (NDS) sources revealed that all NDS Afghan soldiers are under ISI and Taliban’s radar.
Sources also informed that Taliban amnesty is an eyewash. “They have recently killed senior officials. ISI also keeping an eye on these officials to know the channels they dealt in India. ISI also wants to know the supply chain from India of arms and ammunition,” said sources.
Meanwhile, top officials who did not want t be named said, “Threat is not India or IMA specific. They just see officials trained in IMA with suspicion. India was supporting democracy In Afghanistan. We never had any vested interests there. But all NDS is under threat from ISI and Taliban and some are trying to be in touch with us. We will give visa as and when we decide to.”
