Habitual Of Flouting COVID Norms, Nearly 3000 People Were Caught Without Masks On North Goa Beaches!

COVID 19 is still here and the threat continues to loom large on all of us in India. Truly speaking, not a day goes by where the mainstream media does not report about a spike from different regions of the country connected to the pandemic that has still managed to get a grip on the denizens of the country. But even then, those who can afford to travel and explore the magnificent beauty that this country offers, for instance, in places like Rajasthan, Kerala, Goa are moving about. And that’s a huge positive.

Yet, there’s something amiss. And what can make news other than the updates about those Indians among us who still continue to be mobile without caring a darn about the COVID 19 regulations and precautionary measures.

In that sense, not everything has gone right and fully in accordance to plans in destinations such as Goa, which continues to be a huge head-turner and ever a favorite for tens of thousands of holidaymakers and backpackers. COVID or no COVID, the travel situation hasn’t been deterred even by a pandemic that got everyone bothered and shaken.

And it’s a piece of news directly linked to the number of revelers found at Goa beaches during these times that has caught the attention of the breaking news updates in the country. That said, even as we are still in the third month of the year, technically speaking, with the peak summers still at striking distance, it doesn’t make any great news to note that there were several defaulters caught this year at North Goa beaches.

So what’s making news and why does it not tell a great thing about us and our behavior?

Well, believe it or not, so far this year as many as 3,000 people were caught at North Goa without a face mask. The said number of people were found hanging out at the beaches thereabout but without taking the most basic precautionary measure such as wearing a mask.

But it’s not that there was no action done about this instance that shows an absolute brazen lack of disregard for social distancing norms. The Police, it turns out, penalized 3,000 people for violating COVID-19 norms.

All of this does raise a question. How come we are so casual about things as stifling and testing as the novel COVID 19 virus, a form of epidemic that’s captured tens of thousands of lives in the country?

Knowing well the fact that the pandemic is still far from over, shouldn’t we Indians be taking care of the most basic set of norms that ensure the safety of everyone?

In addition to this shocker from Goa, here’s what India Today had to report from the sun-kissed beachy state:

The coastal state has been witnessing huge crowds on its beaches, especially during extended weekends in recent months. According to the state health department, Goa reported 127 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday, raising its tally to 57,839.

Police at Pernem, Anjuna and Calangute cover the entire beach belt in the North Goa district. Pernem’s police inspector Jivba Dalvi said they had caught 957 people without masks so far this year and collected Rs 1.86 lakh in fine from them.

One can only hope that going forward, one will tread more cautiously and exercise greater caution than before. Never a better time to practice vigilance and safety for the self! What do you think?
