Everyone knows the highest mountain in the world but do you know the 10 highest mountains in the world?

There are many mountains worldwide known as EIGHT-THOUSANDERS, as they are higher than 8000 meters. But do you know that all of the 10 highest mountains in the world are EIGHT-THOUSANDERS? Well, now you do.

Also, Eight of the ten highest mountains are in Nepal. We bring together a list of the 10 highest mountains in the world.

1. Mount Everest – Nepal – 8,848 Meters

The highest mountain in the world is Mount Everest, located in Nepal. Already in the year 1953, the Mount Everest, which is called ‘forehead of the sky’, was climbed for the first time by a New Zealander Edmund Hillary and his Sherpa Tenzing Norgay. The 8,848-meter Mount Everest has always been a favourite destination among mountaineers and a real challenge.

The second highest mountain is Qogir, which is popularly called K2. K2, which is located in Pakistan on the border with China is 8611 meters high and is classified by climbers as more demanding than Mount Everest.

3. Kanchenjunga – Nepal/Tibet –  8,586 Meters

The Kanchenjunga is the third highest mountain in the world and it is located in the border area between Nepal and Tibet. The Asiatic mountain, which is also called Kangchenjunga, is 8586 meters high and is the easternmost of all eight-thousanders in the world.

4. Lhotse – Nepal –  8,516 Meters

The 8516 meter high Lhotse is the fourth highest mountain in the world. Like all other mountains already mentioned, it belongs to the Himalayan mountain range in Nepal.

5. Makalu  – Nepal/Tibet  – 8,481 Meters

At the height of 8,481 meters, 35 meters shorter than the Lhotse, is the mountain Makalu. Makalu is the fifth highest mountain in the world. Marjan Manfreda was the first to climb the Makalu in 1975 without oxygen bottles.

6. Cho Oyu  – Nepal/Tibet  – 8,201 Meters

The Cho Oyu measure 8201 meters and also belongs to the Himalayan mountain range. The name translates as the ‘goddess of turquoise’ in Tibetan. People who want to climb it should schedule at least around 26 days journey.

7. Dhaulagiri  – Nepal – 8,167 Meters

The Dhaulagiri, in Nepal, is the seventh highest mountain in the world at 8167 meters. It was considered to be the highest mountain in the world at its first survey. It was only replaced by the Kanchenjunga in 1838.

8. Manaslu  – Nepal – 8,163 Meters

At number 8, on the list of the highest mountains in the world is the Manaslu, which is 8163 meters high and translates to ‘ the mountain of the soul’. If the name Manaslu does not ring a bell, the mountain is also known as Kutang.

9. Nanga Parbat  – Pakistan – 8,126 Meters

Nanga Parbat, also known as Diamir, is the ninth highest mountain in the world measuring 8126 meters. It is the only one of the world’s fourteen eight-thousanders located in the western Himalayas (Pakistan). The Nanga Parbat still has a sad nickname, ‘The Killer Mountain’, because of numerous mountaineering deaths.

10. Annapurna   – Nepal – 8,091 Meters

At the last spot in the 10 highest mountains in the world is the Annapurna. Approximately 8091 meters high Annapurna is the most dangerous eight-thousanders in the world as approximately 31.9% of the climbers/workers die on the mountain.
