Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Is Here And Xiaomi Will Be The First To Use It

If you have already bought the flagship smartphones from Samsung, HTC or Google, it is highly likely that they are powered by the Snapdragon 835 processor, however, similar to what every OnePlus 5 user felt when the 5T was launched, Qualcomm has come up with a shocking launch, dubbed as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset.

For the unknown, the whole world had been expecting the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset to be launched early next year and by then we would have already taken all the juice out from the 2017 flagships we bought.

But there is a good news, since less than a month is left to mark the beginning of 2018 and no flagship maker has announced a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845-powered handset, it is safe to assume that it will be the second quarter of 2018, when we will finally see a smartphone having the under-the-hood power of SD 835.

Update: Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Detailed Specifications Revealed

Details about the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset are scarce as of now but the one thing we know for sure that it will offer at least a 10-20% rise in power and efficiency. The Snapdragon 845, like its predecessor 835, is based on the 10nm process but is expected to feature the latest X20 LTE modem that brings gigabit connectivity to various networks. It will also focus on areas like imaging/video processing, VR/AR AI, and battery life.

While Qualcomm didn’t say much about this new chipset during the keynote, it did tease upgrades like improved security and compatibility with 360-degree UHD video. The gigabit modem, on the other hand, will help users stream a 3GB HD movie in 3 minutes, Qualcomm announced.

As with previous Snapdragon processors, the new flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 platform will also be manufactured in partnership with Samsung Foundry. Interestingly, the South Korean major is one of Qualcomm’s biggest clients and several reports have suggested that Samsung is likely to unveil its flagship Galaxy S9 with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor at CES in January next year.

That said, Samsung isn’t the only manufacturer showing its support for the Snapdragon 845 mobile platform as Xiaomi too has plans to launch its next-generation flagship, which could be the Mi 7.

Everything said and done, Xiaomi was expected to be the first smartphone manufacturer to use the SD 835 but it was said that Samsung bought the whole first batch for the Galaxy S8 series, leaving LG with no option other than launching the LG G6 with SD 821 and forcing OnePlus and HTC to delay their respective flagship releases.

This time around, if the reports are to be believed, Samsung is devising a similar plan and might end up buying the whole first batch for its upcoming Galaxy S9/S9+ flagship. However, with Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun’s presence at the unveiling of Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, it is highly unlikely that the Chinese smartphone maker will face any kind of struggle for its Mi 6 successor.

More details are awaited about the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and the San Diego chipmaker is expected to host a full unveiling on 6th December.
