Xiaomi Mi Max 3 Specifications Revealed, To Come With 5500mAh Battery and Wireless Charging

Much has been said about the Xiaomi’s highly anticipated launches of 2018, especially the Mi Mix 2S and the Mi 7 flagship. However, while we have witnessed more than a couple of leaks related to these two smartphones, here comes another report which suggests that Xiaomi Mi Max 3 is also in the works and the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is going to leave no stone unturned in order to make it an unmatched success.

For the unknown, Xiaomi’s Max-series is known for its humongous battery backup and with the Xiaomi Mi Max 3, the company is reported to continue its legacy and will also add Wireless Charging, a flagship feature, to the mix.

Back in December, it was reported that the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 will come with a humongous 5500mAh battery and a 7-inch 18:9 display. Now, a report by XDA Developers, which claims that they have got their hands on Xiaomi Mi Max 3’s firmware files, the 5500mAh battery is indeed a reality and it has also given us a great insight over what the Mi Max 2’s successor will have to offer.

According to the firmware files, Xiaomi Mi Max 3 will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC with chances of there also being a lower end variant powered by Snapdragon 630 chipset. The battery capacity is said to be 5500mAh which is more than the 5300mAh battery found on the Mi Max 2.

The report also hints that the smartphone will feature a display with 18:9 aspect ratio which goes in line with an earlier report suggesting a 6.99-inch display on the ‘phablet’. That said, the biggest highlights of Xiaomi Mi Max 3 will the introduction of wireless charging in the Max-series and dual-rear cameras.

Xiaomi has recently become a member of ‘Wireless Power Consortium’ which is known for its Qi wireless charging and this means that the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 could be the first smartphone from the company to features Qi wireless charging.

XDA Developers highlighted “two pieces of direct evidence” in the firmware files which support this claim and they also reported that the Mi 7 could also come with the same technology.

As for the camera package, the rear camera module on Xiaomi Mi Max 3 could come with either a Samsung S5K217+S5K5E8 or Sony IMX363 sensor dual camera setup. For the selfie camera, the S5K4H7 sensor from Samsung will be given the responsibilities. Interestingly, the Max 3 might also come with an Omnivision 2281 iris scanner.

The firmware file also reportedly revealed that Xiaomi Mi Max 3 will run on the latest Android 8.1 Oreo OS. Other features include a dual-SIM slot, dual SD card support, LED light notifications, IR Blaster, Qualcomm’s aptX and aptX HD Bluetooth audio codecs, and audio tuned by Dirac.

While all these specifications makeup for a formidable device in the mid-budget smartphone segment, all these should be taken with a pinch of salt as there has been no official statement from Xiaomi over the existence of Mi Max 3, for now.

However, if Xiaomi Mi Max 3 sees the light of the day with such an impressive specs-sheet and its pricing remains close to the CNY 1,899 (Rs 19,400 roughly), Xiaomi might see instant success in the mid-budget segment with this smartphone.
