Samsung Galaxy Note Fan Edition: Note 7 Rises From The Flames, Literally

Samsung Galaxy Note Fan Edition is what the company is calling the refurbished Galaxy Note 7, which has been launched with a price tag of 699,600 KRW ( approx Rs 39,498). Samsung is expected to sell around 400,000 units of Samsung Galaxy Note Fan Edition in South Korea with the launch in other markets to be decided in the coming days.

If you’re questioning yourself that why you’d want to buy a smartphone that once had the unpleasant desire to burst into flames? Well, the Samsung Galaxy Note Fan Edition not exactly the same as before.

Samsung has not used the recalled units of the Note 7 rather, the units that were not sold have been refurbished as the Samsung Galaxy Note Fan Edition and it also comes with new tweaks that will ensure that the smartphone won’t boss around exploding itself.

The major difference in the Samsung Galaxy Note Fan Edition lies in the redesigned battery and since the company itself confirmed a faulty battery design in case of the Note7, the new Fan Edition comes with a smaller 3200mAh battery (rather than the 3500mAh unit). Samsung has confirmed that new the battery has been tested with the same 8-point battery safety test launched ahead of Galaxy S8 launch.

The Samsung Galaxy Note Fan Edition runs the same software as that of Galaxy S8 duo, coupled with the Bixby voice assistant. The new Fan Edition is touted to be an eco-friendly initiative from the company, but it is still unclear how environment agencies will react to the device after last year’s fiasco that resulted in losses worth $5.5 Billion for Samsung.

While the Samsung Galaxy Note Fan Edition will be offered in Black Onyx, Gold Platinum, Blue Coral and Silver Titanium color options with the company’s S-Pen stylus, the device will also include “Galaxy Note Fan Edition” logo at the rear.

Samsung Galaxy Note Fan Edition Specifications

Samsung Galaxy Note Fan Edition comes with the same metal and glass design, a 5.7-inch (2560×1440) Quad HD AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5, dual curved edges, Octa-core Exynos 8890 chipset under the hood, coupled with 4GB RAM as well as 64GB storage, expandable up to 256GB via microSD.

The camera setup includes a 12MP rear shooter with LED flash, PDAF, optical image stabilization, HDR and 4K video recording at 30fps. A 5MP unit at the front, which is similar that of Galaxy S8 flagship. The device also comes with IP68 water resistance and the iris recognition feature.

Other features include USB 3.1 with Type-C connector, Fingerprint sensor, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2 and NFC support.

While Samsung Galaxy Note Fan Edition is going to be a collectors-focused device, with rumors of Galaxy Note 8 getting launched in August, most people are likely to skip this Fan Edition and wait for the latter. The Note 8, on the other hand, is expected to feature a dual-camera setup as well as a slightly larger curved display than the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus.
