Contrary to earlier reports, OnePlus 6 is indeed going to be launched the second quarter of 2018, which means that the company will be sticking to the trend of launching its flagship in the month of June.
It’s been a couple of months since the Chinese smartphone manufacturer launched the OnePlus 5T globally which has been an instant hit. However, with the next year’s flagship, expected to be the OnePlus 6, the company is going to, once again, introduce another formidable smartphone in the affordable flagship category.
Even though nothing significant has been in the news regarding the 2018 OnePlus Flagship, the smartphone has managed to stay in news due to various reasons. First, it is rumored to come with iPhone X like Face ID and if this happens, we expect a stark rise in the price of the smartphone. Secondly, with Vivo soon to become the first smartphone maker to use the In-Display Fingerprint Scanner technology, OnePlus 6 being launched in June means that the Chinese manufacturer might also try its hand at this feature.
Moreover, when it comes to under-the-hood-power, OnePlus 6 will be powered by the Snapdragon 845 SoC and this has been confirmed by the company’s CEO Pete Lau. Speaking to CNET in an interview during the CES 2018, Lau said that they have no other choice but to use the SD 845 Chipset for OnePlus 6 which is expected to be the second smartphone after Samsung Galaxy S9 to feature this processor.
Taking further about the smartphone, Lau didn’t seem eager about the Artificial Intelligence capabilities, while also not denying that OnePlus smartphones have also included some of the most high-end features in the business.
To recall, Honor View 10 is the best AI-capable smartphone, as of the now, and with its Kirin 970 chipset coupled with built-in neural-network processing unit (NPU), it makes the handset capable of deep learning behavior.
Coming back to the smartphone in question, OnePlus 6 is expected to come with an improvement as well as a more refined design that will provide more space to the bezel-less screen, which is expected to be bigger than the OnePlus 5.
Talking about the hardware, the said ‘Flagship Killer’ will come paired with 6GB RAM while there will also be an 8GB version but OnePlus might combine it with 256GB of onboard memory and upgrade the base variant to 128GB.
On the other hand, although not much is known about the camera units, the company is expected to give special attention in this department since it faced a huge flak from users of the company’s last two smartphones.
As far as the company’s global plans are concerned, they are planning to go mainstream in the US as Pete Lau stated that they would soon begin talks with US-based carriers since 80-90 percent of consumers in the United States buy their smartphones directly through their network providers.
Everything said and done, OnePlus has been increasing the prices of their flagship smartphones with every passing year and they want OnePlus 6 to be a great success, features like wireless charging, waterproofing, etc in order to make the device more appealing and worth the expected price which can even touch the Rs 40,000 mark.
