Moto G5S Plus Review: The Exciting Work Horse With Dual Cameras

Moto G5S Plus has been launched in India with a price tag of Rs 15,999 and since it is the same price at which its predecessor the G5 Plus was launched, the latter has received a price cut and is now available at Rs 14,999. Coming back to the Moto G5S Plus, this is the first smartphone from the brand to come with a dual camera setup at the rear and as for the other upgrades, Moto G5S Plus is completely built out of metal with many other minor spec upgrades.

However, before going down into the depths of Moto G5S Plus’ capabilities, we would like to mention its lower-end version, Moto G5S which has been launched at Rs 13,999. It comes with a 5.2-inch Full HD display, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box, 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset, 16MP rear camera and a 5MP front shooter, while the whole package is supported by a 3000mAh battery with fast charging.

Well, Moto G5S is just a specifications upgrade when compared to its predecessor but the highlight of this launch has to be the Moto G5S Plus which has everything it takes to sell like hot cakes, but considering the already successful offerings in the segment, like Lenovo K8 Note, Coolpad Cool Play 6, LG Q6, Honor 8 Lite, and the evergreen Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, will the Moto G5S Plus get its own share of air to breathe? What we liked about Moto G5S Plus

• While the smartphone looks exactly like its predecessor, the metallic frame gives Moto G5S Plus a premium as well as a solid feel.

• 5.5-inch full HD IPS display is bright and vivid, and it offers great viewing angles, as well.

• For those who like Stock Android experience, Moto G5S Plus is a treat for them.

• Performance credentials are similar to the G5 Plus, which means that multitasking and heavy gaming won’t challenge the device, at all.

• The rear dual cameras come with an in-depth mode (for Bokeh effect) and along with capabilities of background replacement as well as exposure management, raw images also comes out pretty well, and the 13MP+13MP sensor does a pretty good work in eliminating grains. Low light performance is also up to the mark.

• The 8MP front unit is also an upgrade from its predecessor and it you are a selfie freak, Moto G5S Plus will satisfy your cravings, even under low lighting conditions, thanks to the bright front flash.

What we don’t like about Moto G5S Plus

• Visibility under direct sunlight is not perfect as the display is quite reflected but it still does the work.

• The 3000mAh battery can merely give you a day’s worth of juice, even if you are a moderate user. But for aggressive is what you want to be with Moto G5S Plus, better carry the charger.

Verdict

When it comes to dual-camera smartphones, Moto G5S Plus is late to join the party in the mid-budget segment, but does it make its presence felt? Hell yes!!

For those who are looking to buy a new smartphone with dual-cameras for under Rs 20,000, Moto G5S Plus appears to be a pretty good deal but if you own a G5 Plus, there is little to think about an upgrade.

As for the competition and Value For Money, considering the brand value and our previous encounter with Motorola smartphone, the Moto G5S Plus also justifies the price tag, completely.
