Legion Gives an Open Challenge to Delhi Police.

Legion, a hacking group, have taken the Indian Cybersecurity by storm and created a havoc by hacking into the Twitter accounts of high profile individuals like Vijay Mallya, Rahul Gandhi, and Barkha Dutt. The group has further taunted the Indian Banking System as Legion have released a list of emails and passwords belonging to 74,000 Chartered Accountants.

During an encrypted conversation with TOI, the 18-year old (as he said) is somewhere in India and has further claimed to have compromised for IPL Chairman Lalit Modi’s account and the sansad.nic.in domain.

This is what the hacker said.

We have dumpz (sic) from all the major institutions…all the major banks and passwords…of all da chartered accountants in INDIA. And those that had the same pw on Dropbox? Too bad, they got owned (compromised) and all the dox were dumped. The people they work for? Too bad for them too. Raw data brings chaos.

Legion looks confident of having the exact data and if the leaked information leads to big corruption players, this will definitely help the Indian Government. However, the cyber threat that Legion pose to India can not be ignored.

Legion seems confused about their identity because initially, they posed as an individual but later on began to speak as a group (New to Business huh??). They also said that all these activities were just for fun and Legion is a group of cyber criminals and drug addicts.

The most important question: Why are they doing it?

While answering this, Legion said that they do not care about politics and were sick of all this Bull**** (their words not ours). They further added that results of these leaks don’t matter to them and they like to spread chaos all over.

When asked about getting caught, they confidently said that ‘Good Luck to Delhi Police’ and referring to the November 2013 scam in which Police officers and so-called ethical hackers were caught for illegal acquisition of many VIPs call records, said “Delhi Police should probably spend their time thinking of better passwords for their servers and not downloading backdoored CDR analysis software perhaps. That might actually help them do something productive… like say not get owned for instance.” haha!! I like their confidence.

Everything said and done, Legion is emerging as the biggest and most disruptive hacking group that Indian authorities have faced ever and if they are a group of teenagers, we can’t imagine the threat they will pose once gaining more experience in Cybercrime. However, authorities are trying their best to track Legion and we hope to see them behind the bar soon.
