Zidane Tells Why Cristiano Ronaldo Is Better Than Lionel Messi

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are arguably two of the best players to have ever featured in the game of Football, and more often than not, there arises a question to pick the better one from these two. Be it the critics or fans, nobody has ever been able to give a valid reason behind their pick and if someone ever did, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have come up with all aces to let their respective presence felt.

As far as the last season is concerned, Cristiano Ronaldo has pipped Messi by becoming the first player to score 100 European and Champions League goals, while also taking Real Madrid to a European double as Los Blancos lifted the La Liga trophy as well as successfully defended the Champions League title.

Moreover, he has been the frontrunner for this year’s Ballon d’Or award and since he lifted the fourth Ballon d’Or last year, Ronaldo is expected to equal Lionel Messi’s record of five Best Player award.

That being said, Zinedine Zidane, the current Real Madrid manager, in an interview with Telefoot, heaped praises on Ronaldo and gave some reasons for picking the Portuguese as the best player in the world over Lionel Messi.

Here is what Zidane said,

“Cristiano Ronaldo is a great player, the best in the world, I am playing with wonderful football players and professionally also, as they always motivate each other. Ronaldo could say ‘today I will relax’, however, he pushes others and make them better. With Seven trophies, there’s a lot of work behind because there’s a club, a team as well as an extraordinary backdrop.”

“I’m very happy with what I’m doing at Real Madrid… the context is unique, I’m the head coach of this team and I really enjoy it because I know it’s the biggest club in the world and it’s going to stop one day.”

With what Zidane said, one thing is clear that Real Madrid has done everything right in his term and the manager is looking to add more trophies in his bag and is confident of the support from his team.

As for Cristiano Ronaldo, in his absence, Real Madrid have drawn their last two La Liga games, at home against Valencia and Levante on Saturday, and seemed to lack the firepower that CR7 brings to the attack.

The talismanic forward is serving a five-match ban after collecting a red card for shoving a referee during the Super Cup clash against Barcelona in August. However, while Cristiano Ronaldo still has a game left on the suspension which means that he will miss the match against Real Sociedad on September 17, but when Real Madrid start their Champions League defence against APOEL Nicosia on Wednesday, Ronaldo will be back in the game and his tally of 407 goals in 396 appearances will finally roar on the field, once again.
