Lionel Messi Clears The Air After His Abrupt Cryptic Celebration Gesture

Barcelona’s tremendous goal scoring spree continued in La Liga as they thumped a victory over Celta Vigo by 5-0 on Saturday. Lionel Messi opened the score tally with a 24th-minute goal at Camp Nou, reflecting the dominant and hard to answer attacking lineup of Barcelona. Neymar Jr (40’), I.Rakitic (57’), S.Umtiti (61’) and Lionel Messi’s second goal in the 64th minute humiliated Celta De Vigo as the visitors were not given a single chance to come close to the goal.

Yes, they showed some resistance in the first half after Messi’s shot for glory but what happens after the break was all out destruction from Barcelona. The game has taken the team at the top of La Liga tally once again with 60 points and Real Madrid, despite their 4-1 victory over Eibar, stood second in the tally with 59 points, having an advantage of playing a game less than Barcelona.

However, the Catalans, are not going through their best of times both on the ground and off it. After Luis Enrique recently announced his retirement as Club’s manager by the end of the season, Josep Maria Bartomeu, the president of Barcelona, has another reason to worry.

Lionel Messi’s contract is coming to an end by the end of 2017/18 season and the president is finding it really hard to come to terms with Messi for a contract extension. Much has already been said about the player leaving the club if his demands are not met with and the rumor again got fired up during the Barcelona 5-0 Celta Vigo game.

After scoring the opener, The Lionel Messi pointed to the stands as he walked back to the centre circle, making a telephone gesture to his ear and given that such moves aren’t common for the attacker, everybody assumed it being a hint about his feud with Josep Maria Bartomeu over contract talks, making the transfer rumors more intense.

Here is how Messi celebrated his goal.

The Actual Reason

However, Lionel Messi has cleared the air and said that he was merely dedicating the goal to his nephew, sitting in the crowd at the Nou Camp. His nephew, Augustin, who himself plays for Barcelona’s Under 16s side, was trying to phone the Argentine attacking superstar throughout the day but was not able to get through, and the 29-year-old dedicated the goal to him, making it one of the most memorable days for Augustin.

Haters always mark Lionel Messi as one of the most controversial players in Football but moments like these always leave us in awe and the haters in shame for their remarks.
