Barcelona To Sign Yerry Mina For €9 million

Barcelona is all set to sign Palmeiras and Colombia defender Yerry Mina for €9 million as they have an agreement in place for the highly rated backline guardian. The Colombia international has emerged as one of the most sought-after talents and clubs across Europe are hovering over him with admiring glances, to grab Mina before the transfer window closes.

Barcelona has resisted from making any big changes in their lineup this season but considering their recent performances, this was a much-needed addition the Catalan Giants. Once Mina signs the contract, he will switch to Camp Nou after playing with Palmeiras for the remainder of the calendar year. Which means, January 2018 will see Yerry Mina marking his Barcelona Debut.

A few months back, rumors had it that Manchester City was also ready to put their bets on Mina, who was voted as the best defender in the Brazilian top-flight last year, and now it seems that Pep Guardiola, the former Barcelona, and Bayern Munich head coach, will have to look somewhere else.

However, not everything is going against City as it was earlier rumored that Barcelona was interested in Brazilian forward, Gabriel Jesus, but Pep Guardiola moved in swiftly to sign the 19-year-old.

Meanwhile, Barcelona’s pursuit of the player does make sense as Catalans have been struggling with the defense, one of their major fallout coming in the UEFA Champions League round of 16. Their defensive lineup consisting of Pique, Umtiti, Mascherano and Jeremy Mathieu has been highly inconsistent. While the first two are struggling with their form, Mascherano and Mathieu are showing the signs of aging.

Yerry Mina with his calm composure and ability on the ball, that helped his side to win the Brasileirao for the first time since 1994, is a perfect bet for Barcelona and the 22-year-old could become the face of Barcelona’s defense in the future.

However, Barca is also in need for an experienced player at the back, who can fill the void of Carles Puyol and we can most probably see the Spanish Giants making a move in the summer transfer window, rather than waiting for the January 2018.
