Barcelona 7-1 Osasuna, this what Lionel Messi’s double strike resulted in Barcelona’s La Liga clash after a nail-biting victory in the El Clasico. Last night was all about giving a chance to new talent both for Real Madrid and Barcelona, yet we witnessed them thrashing their respective opponents in a way that only these two Spanish Giants can do.
Lionel Messi (12’, 61’), Andre Gomes (30’, 57’) and Paco Alcacer (64’, 86’), all three of them scored twice against Osasuna as the latter was finding it way too hard to keep up with the Catalans.
Lionel Messi was returning to the Camp Nou after slaying Real Madrid and netting his 500th goal for Barcelona, but made the night even more special was too of the most difficult goals scored during the game and both coming from Lionel Messi.
His first goal was nothing short of a beauty as he racing through the midfield on a long pass, juggling the ball and lofting it over Salvatore Sirigu. Andre Gomes made it double, 18 minutes later, when Barcelona earned a corner after Lionel Messi’s shot was handled by Osasuna’s defender. Ivan Rakitic’s corner from the left was happily greeted by Gomes inside the box and the ball was sent into the nets with an assured right-footed finish.
After scoring two goals in the second half, Barcelona went on adding four more in the second half but out of them, there were two goals that meant more than just a strike.
First, it was Lionel Messi’s exceptional dribble and defence-piercing abilities that gave a clear warning to Real Madrid for their future clashes.
Next highlight of the Barcelona 7-1 Osasuna came in the 67th minute when Javier Mascherano converting a penalty after Denis Suarez was fouled by Fran Merida in the penalty area. The former Liverpool midfielder seven years and 60 days to experience that feeling once again. His last found the back of the net in February 2010.
Interesting, Ivan Rakitic picked the ball to take the shot but since Barcelona had a 4-goal lead, he confidently handed the ball to Mascherano, who in turn finally ended his goal-drought.
It took him 319 appearances with Barcelona to taste the blood and when he did, it was definitely one of the biggest moments for the club too, especially for Luis Enrique. This was Barcelona’s 500th goal under Luis Enrique’s term and whether people remember Mascherano’s goal or not, Enrique is definitely going to cherish this moment for all his life.
The moment itself was so special that Luis Suarez didn’t manage to control his emotions so did all the fans on Twitter.
For us, it’s just a start of something new for Barcelona as the club is already struggling to come up with a strong defense and it continued during their clash against Osasuna. Roberto Torres scored a 48th-minute goal, piercing the home team’s defense, and it shouldn’t have been conceded in the very first place.
