One of the most interesting cricketing series’ in the imminent future is one where India visit Australia, both countries being home to a massive number of fans, and over and above, being institutions of the great game.
We know the Gavaskars and Borders; we have hailed the likes of Tendulkars and the Waughs. And that love, one that knows no boundaries, has reached the likes of Kohlis and Smiths.
May it only continue to grow multifold!
That being said- there’s enough allure to witness the upcoming 2020 series where- New Zealand, having successfully thudded India recently (a little over) half a year ago- would wish to follow the proceedings.
Can Australia, much like New Zealand, extend an olive branch to India, will be the key question.
But who knows?
Whether or not Australia can stop India, what must be given due importance is that an important constituent of India’s batting arsenal- Rohit Gurunath Sharma- shall not be a part of the team’s forthcoming Australia tour
So what happened?
Why is one of the most dangerous batsmen in the recent times not playing? Moreover, did Rohit Sharma do something desperately wrong so as not to be picked?
Make no mistake.
The dangerous Mumbai-born right-hander has amassed, thus far, over 2,100 Test runs (6 centuries, batting average of 46) and well over 11,800 (if you combine ODIs and T20Is).
That being said- wouldn’t the Indian squad seem a bit jaded in the absence of the famous right-hander?
After all, this is no ordinary bat; this is the man we love and respect as the ‘Hitman!’
Believe it or not, it’s a hamstring injury that has distanced the fluent-scoring right hander from the upcoming tour to Australia.
The following is an excerpt from NDTV, in a report on the said matter:
“India’s limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma, who is currently battling with a hamstring injury, has not been picked in any of the three squads, with BCCI saying that their medical team will continue to monitor his progress. Another notable name missing from the Test squad is veteran fast bowler Ishant Sharma, who was ruled out of the IPL with a rib injury. The BCCI’s medical team will also keep track of his progress.”
The above said, the 33-year-old batsman, also the captain of one of the most famous outfits in IPL history (Mumbai Indians) has made a name for himself by getting off to flying starts.
With a memorable Test series’ against Faf du Plessis’ touring Protea (September-October 2019), and the away tour to Australia, Rohit Sharma looked in mighty touch.

He’d have done the same bringing that customary lazy elegance into play had the ill-timed injury not played foul- right?
Here’s wishing the Vice-Captain of the Indian Cricket Team- all the best in the times to come. May he return to the crease soon.
Meanwhile, KL Rahul has been made the acting vice-captain in place of the injured Rohit Sharma for the tour to Australia.
