These myths are generally coming from years of thinking that women’s hygiene is incomplete and bad if women are not getting hurt from it.

However, this is not true and nothing but a load of misconstrued myths, which is why we wanted to bust them once for all. If you’re interested in knowing the answer to the shaving myths for women, then no, shaving is not bad for you neither does it hurt you or your hair grows back thicker from it.

Now, let us get into 6 face shaving myths for women that are bogus to the T.

Shaving Myth 1: Post shaving, your hair grows back faster, thicker and darker.

Reality: This entire myth is farthest from the truth. No amount of waxing, shaving, or pulling out can lead to a change in hair growth since it is entirely dependent on one’s genes, eating habits, and hormonal changes.

Since you’re shaving your hair and not pulling it out, it is just cut from the surface level of the face which makes the surface appear darker or thicker, and not in reality.

Shaving Myth 2: Repeated shaving on the same area gives a closer finish

Reality: The max one should go on to shave a particular area is twice, if you’re unable to shave the hair out then it means that the blade is blunt. Hence, no amount of regress pressure or constant shaving can change it. Also, do note that doing so can cause skin irritation and even rashes.

Shaving Myth 3: Pressing razor hard on the skin will give a closer shave

Reality: Much like the earlier myth even this isn’t true. You’ll have a smooth shave only with a sharp razor blade and putting pressure on it would only make it more prone to cuts and nicks during the process. Hence, please do yourself a favor and don’t try to experiment with different shaving techniques.

Shaving Myth 4: Only shaving is the root cause of ingrown hair and follicles

Reality: Ingrown hair are the result of dead skin clogging hair follicles and it can be caused due to any kind of hair removing process. The only remedy for this to not occur in the first place is to set a dedicated exfoliation routine. Exfoliating helps in removing dead skin cells and doing it before the shaving routine will only help you in receiving the best of results.

Shaving Myth 5: Soap works just fine for shaving

Reality: There is a reason why a million-dollar shaving industry is set up in the world, and another reason behind the existence of shaving gels, foams, and creams. The work on hydrating, moisturizing, and prepping your skin well for the shaving session. Using just soap or water can cause dry skin, redness, and irritation. Many have also started using serums and oils to prep their skin for the shave.

Shaving Myth 6: Shave as infrequently as possible

Reality: Okay, so some have grown into the idea of shaving their faces but they still believe that one should only reserve this practice for days when you don’t have any other resort to lean on. However, it is not true. Shaving on regular basis can lead to removing dead skin and hair, moreover, it reduces the chances of ingrown hair piping through.
