Is Solid Soap Hygienic?

The sustainability debate is changing the consumption behavior of people. Avoiding garbage, especially plastic, is becoming increasingly important. It also explains why the soap bar is enjoying this newly added popularity. The use of the classic soap bar prevents microplastics from getting into waste water and thus into nature. By dispensing with disposable soap dispensers or refill bags, a lot of packaging and plastic waste is also saved. You can often buy the soap bars completely unwrapped or wrapped in paper. Nevertheless, there are some reservations about the good old soap bar.

Solid and liquid soap not only differ in their consistency, the composition is also different. The main constituent of the liquid soap is surfactants, chemical substances that allow water and oil to mix. The solid soap, on the other hand, is composed of animal or vegetable fatty acids.

Both Have The Same Cleaning Power

As far as hygiene is concerned, both soapbar and liquid soap should be rated equally. The prejudice that solid soap is poorer in cleaning power is not true and many studies have refuted this claim. Nevertheless, this myth persists. One reason for this assumption could be the appearance of the solid soap, which changes significantly after only a few uses. It cracks, becomes greasy and eventually deforms.

The Yellow Bird

This can be easily prevented with a few tricks. It is important to regularly remove excess water from the soap dish and wash it out. If water accumulates there over a longer period of time, germs can form.

In a household, a single soap bar is usually used by several people. This is also perceived by some as unsanitary. Normally, it is not possible for pathogens to be transmitted through the soap. When you wash your hands, you rub the top of the soap so that it mixes with the water. This removes all kinds of germs, and other biological substances that are on the soap are rinsed off.

Different Skin Tolerance

In addition to sustainability and hygiene, the individual’s skin also plays a role in purchasing the right soap. Liquid soap is more suitable for dry and stressed skin. It hardly changes the natural pH of the skin. Even after washing, there is a stable value between 5 and 7. However, using the solid soap, the pH value becomes unbalanced and can rise to 10. The skin dries out, becomes brittle and loses resistance. Healthy skin takes about two hours to regenerate. With frequent hand washing or stressed skin, the liquid soap is more skin-friendly. However, if you want to focus primarily on sustainability, you can do so with a clear conscience opt for the soap bar.

By the way Fact :The first Sumerian soap formulation was developed by the Sumerians who lived in what is now Iraq, in 4500 BC. The composition of oil and vegetable ash was then used as a healing ointment. Only the Romans used the cleaning properties of the soap. The solid soap as we know it was first made in the 7th century. With the help of oil, alkaline salts and heat, a solid mass was formed in a caustic solution.
