Radish is an underground growing vegetable that has crunchy flesh and comes in a variety of colours. Despite the health benefits of radish, it is not a very likeable vegetable. But the taste of radish is such that it eventually grows on you. 

Radishes are natives of Central and Southeast Asia. Given the medicinal benefits of radish, there are traces in history that radish was cultivated and consumed by Greeks and Romans about 2,500 years ago. Even today it is used in the preparation of a wide range of food items from salad, to parathas and dal. 

They come in different colours and that’s what differentiates them from each other. The most common is the red radish also known as round radish or globe radish. The others are Japanese or Daikon radish which resembles carrots and is white. The watermelon radish has a white exterior and pink interior while the Spanish radish comes with black skin

The health benefits of radish extend to keep your bowel in good health. Radish has ample content of fibres and roughages which improves your digestion. It aids in bile production thereby providing a safety net to your gallbladder and liver

For those who do not know bile is a fluid that is produced by the liver and stored in the gallbladder and is excellent for the process of digestion. 

Plus, the benefit of radish juice is that it retains adequate water in your body that indirectly contribute to the digestion process.

The health benefit of radish leaves is known to save people from immense pain caused due to piles. The antibacterial property of the leaves decreased the swelling and inflammation. 

A paste made of the crushed radish leaves with sugar and water when applied to affected areas gives a soothing effect and provides great relief.

Radish leaves are a  powerhouse of a bunch of nutrients that make them best for detoxifying the body. The antimicrobial and antibacterial property helps in flushing out the toxins from the body.

Drinking about a litre of this juice for about 10 days is said to heal the body from the attack of lethal disease like jaundice

Just one red flag, if you have thyroid then do not go overboard with the intake of radish.
