Delicious And Interesting Benefits Of Soya Chunks That Make Them A Healthy Substitute For Meat

Soya chunks or as they are commonly called vegetarian’s meat and there are tons of benefits of soya chunks that many still are unaware of. Soya chunks are made from the defatted residue of the soya beans and. When soya beans are pressed for extracting soybean oil they leave a flour-like residue which is rough in texture this flour is used to make Soya chunks.

They’re primarily used as a substitute for meat and a crowd favourite among the vegans. Plus, a variety of dishes are now made and enjoyed, while keeping soya at the center of it.

There is a lot of debate going on whether or not Soya is a superfood loaded with protein and Omega 3 or just full of harmful estrogen. While we can’t deny soy being the former due to tons of research and nutritionists support with it, a lot more evidence is needed to support the latter.

100 grams of Soya chunks hold about 36-40grams of protein which is much more than a single serving of milk, eggs, or anything which we usually have in our diet (veg). On average, young athletes need about 2grams of protein per kilogram of their body weight, hence including soya chunks in one’s diet can fulfill a large part of their daily protein requirement. However, it is advised that you should take about 25-30grams of Soya chunks as they can increase the level of uric acid in your system.

2. Good For Women During Menopause

During menopause, many women face the problem of osteoporosis, a condition in which bones become brittle and weak, while the formation of new bones becomes stagnant. Soya chunks, due to the rich content of “isoflavones”, an antioxidant found majorly in plants, helps in the treatment of osteoporosis. But again it should be consumed in moderation.

3. Great Source of Omega 3 – Benefits of Soya Chunks

Another one of the benefits of soya chunks is that it contains a moderate amount of good fatty acids. Omega 3 fatty acids and fibers are considered very good nutrients to control your cholesterol levels and keep your heart active and healthy.

Minerals like calcium, magnesium, manganese, and iron are found in soya chunks and are known to be an essential dietary component for a healthy mind, body and heart.

Soya chunks due to their rough texture contain a lot of dietary fibers. Apart from this, soya chunks are full of vitamin-b, vitamin-k, riboflavin and folate which keeps your body going and offers energy to it.

Another one of the benefits is that this food item is downright delicious. There are a ton of recipes that one can make with these chunks and enjoy. From traditional Indian sabzis to western sandwiches, you can add them to almost anything. Just remember to wash and boil them thoroughly since they can accumulate a lot of dirt which is never fun.

There are tons of other benefits of Soya chunks and they also help in faster muscle building and recovery, while also boasting one’s metabolism. They are also great for the health of your bones, hair and skin.

According to a 2015 study published in the Molecules journal, it was found that soya chunks can efficiently control bad cholesterol levels in the body due the omega 3 fatty acids and protect the heart from various cardiovascular diseases. The study also discovered that soya chunks stop excess fat from accumulating around the organs like the liver and heart, thus promoting weight-loss.

A Few Words of Caution: Although there is a wide range of benefits of Soya chunks, there are also some potentially negative health effects of consuming soya chunks as a part of your diet.

Since there are estrogen-mimicking compounds in soybeans, men can occasionally develop a hormonal imbalance if consumed in high amounts. Additional research is ongoing in this area. Therefore it is advised to take 25-30grams of Soya chunks in a balanced daily diet
