Is Kerala Finally Climbing Out Of The COVID 19 Scare?

It’s not called the god’s own country for nothing. It is a land of boundless pleasures that stem from serenity and a naturally-captivating landscape that carries the bespoke earthen charms of India. Not overzealous or ostentatious in that there aren’t the kind of palaces or forts you’d revel in a Gujarat or Rajasthan, but a grassroots simplicity coupled with a peculiar cultural distinctiveness that makes India’s state with the highest literacy rate, a splendid one.

Of course, throw in the sprawling backwaters and you engage in atmospherics of breathtaking beauty that define the landscape of a region like few other facets in India ever can. But of late, Kerala, one of the most touristy destinations in all of India, has been straddling with its own issues, those that aren’t that dissimilar from what the entirety of the country has been jostling with: the dreadful outreach of the COVID 19 virus.

And now, with the Delta varian becoming another cause of concern, not just for India, but for the wider world, there’s reason to believe that the trouble springing from COVID 19 isn’t going to end anytime soon. Is it?

That being told, here’s what the noted News 18 platform had to say about what’s currently happening down south and what sense to draw from it. Reading this, one notes that things aren’t as bad, at least, at this point in time in a region where one feared the worst:

India reported over 2.5 lakh cases, down from 2.8 lakh in the previous week and the lowest count in the last three weeks. Kerala accounted for exactly two-thirds or 66.6% of all cases in India. It reported just over 1.6 lakh fresh infections during the seven-day period.

On Sunday, India reported close to 31,400 fresh cases and 21 .. Kerala logged the highest number of deaths at 67, followed by Maharashtra (46), Tamil Nadu (22) and Karnataka (17) while Kerala registered 20,240 fresh cases.

But that being said, the most important thing to note regarding Kerala’s current situation is this:

17% Dip in Kerala Covid Count Causes Weekly Cases in India to Drop By 13%. If that’s not a positive piece of news then one wonders, just what is? For a state that, as on the present date, suffered from no fewer than 22,484 deaths, having faced the ire of both waves of the Coronavirus, it’s splendid to note that the COVID cases are falling.

Moreover, it ought to be told, that this is the state largely revered for being an intellectual cosmos and a gateway to relish the best that the country has to offer in tourism from down south.

May better days prevail for the land that has given much to India, and where the present date stands, then the man behind the famous phrase, invented to salute his superb grasp and command over England’s native language: Tharoor-o-saurus.
