The COVID 19 pandemic did lead to situations that became dire for the famous Latin American nation of Brazil. As a matter of fact, up to this point in time, the overall number of Coronavirus cases in Brazil measure around 10.3 million. Of these, while there have been 9.21 million recoveries, there have also been fatalities. And if you are wondering just how many then it helps to know that no fewer than 250,000 lost their battle against this deadly devil.
This is why it’s hardly a surprise that among the foremost agendas for the nation has been to find a suitable vaccine fix. And thus entered India in the frame. And one of the biggest developments in the realm of the COVID 19 vaccine fray is the fact that India will be sending vaccines for Brazil.
In fact, the vaccines for Brazil measure in millions. To elaborate further, India is due to sell no fewer than 20 million vaccines to Brazil.
In what can only be described as a mega deal, Brazil’s Health Ministry signed, as on Thursday, i.e., February 25, a contract to purchase 20 million doses of the Covaxin from India. Now, as a matter of fact, the Covaxin happens to be the go-to vaccine in one of the largest democracies of the world and also happens to be a noted indigenous vaccine of the country.
It may not be wrong to say that somewhere in the deal that underlines the sale of the vaccines for Brazil, there must have been tremendous faith in the capability of India’s Bharat Biotech, among the premier institutes at this point in the mega fight against the pandemic.
Having said that, we now come to the point regarding the expected delivery of the said vaccines: just when will the vaccines for Brazil be delivered?
To that end, it helps to know that the said delivery is expected to be between the months of March-to-May, 2021. Furthermore, it’s worthwhile to note that the current deal happens to be of mega proportions. And just how is that?
Apparently, the India-Brazil vaccine deal is worth not less than 1.6 billion reais. The figure, when translated into US Dollars, weighs up to $290,000.
Also, it’s been shared that the first round of doses of the vaccines for Brazil are due to arrive in the country toward early March.
In what can only be described as a massive sigh of relief for Brazil, the vaccine deal with India will surely calm down the tensity associated with the COVID 19 situation. How brilliant it is, after all, to find a solution to a grievous situation at the end of the day!
Meanwhile, here are more inputs on the developing story from NDTV:
To speed up the buying of vaccines in Brazil and deal with the second-deadliest coronavirus outbreak in the world, the ministry said it published new rules last week dispensing with the bidding process.
