We all know about India’s richest man- Mr. Mukesh Ambani, we also know about some more iconic and money-ful names in the country including the Tatas, the Birlas and other such. But, how many of you know about India’s richest women who are either co-heading these businesses or the officially running some of the biggest businesses in the country.

Yes, we do know that the number is nowhere close to what India’s richest men or the world’s richest men account for, but this also shows the opportunities that we can prepare our women for. The 38-year-old billionaire from India took over the holding company HCL Corporation, after her father and founder of HCL Shiv Nadar. Roshni became chairperson of HCL technology after her father stepped down from the board of directors. With a net worth of 36,800 crores, she’s on the top of this India’s richest women list. Due to her inclination towards philanthropy, she is a trustee of the Shiv Nadar Foundation, which is focused on education and has established some of India’s top colleges and schools.

2. Smita V Crishna

With a net worth of rupees 31,400 crores Crishna stands second on India’s richest women list. Smita hails from the Godrej family and she owns one-fifth of the stakes in family assets of consumer goods giant. She has also purchased a bungalow belonging to Dr. Homi J Bjaba, the renowned late atomic physicist in a deal worth Rs. 371 crores. The Godrej family controls the $4.7 billion (revenue) of the Godrej Group which is a 123-year-old consumer goods leader.

3. Kiran Nadar – India’s Richest Women

The wife of Shiv Nadar and mother of the richest woman in India ranks third in this list of India’s richest women. With a net worth of 25,100 crore rupees, she’s consistently practicing philanthropy and is considered as one of India’s biggest philanthropists. Truly an art enthusiast at the core, Kiran is the chairperson of the “Kiran Nadar Museum of Arts” situated in Delhi.

4. Kiran Majumdar Shaw

Chairperson, managing director and founder of a leading pharmaceutical company in India, Bicon group, with a net worth of rupees 18,500 crores, this 67-year-old self-made billionaire stands fourth in our list. Biocon is the first company to gain approval from the USFDA for two different biosimilars of drugs used in certain cancer treatments. She’s invested in research infrastructure and scientific talent with the aim of building a deep R&D-based biotech firm, not a copycat generics maker. She’s also a philanthropist and has initiated the Majumdar Shaw medical center for creating a sustainable and affordable cancer care model.

5. Manju D Gupta

With a net worth of rupees 18,000 crore rupees Manju D Gupta & family ranks 5 in the list of India’s richest women. She’s the chairperson of Lupin. Ltd a Mumbai based pharmaceutical company and also one of the forerunners in the industry of pharmaceutical products. This 76-year-old billionaire handles all the non-executive operations of the company.

6. Leena Gandhi Tewari

The heiress and chairperson of USV Pvt.ltd. with a net worth of 13,200 crore rupees, Leena is a well-known name in the pharmaceutical industry. USV is one of the leading names in the field of biotechnology and pharmaceutical supplies. Founded in 1961 by her late father Vithal Gandhi, USV specializes in diabetic and cardiovascular drugs, with a portfolio that spans biosimilar drugs, injectable and active pharmaceutical ingredients. However, right now the company is being run by her husband Prashant, a mechanical engineer from Cornell University, US.

7. Radha Vembu – India’s Richest Women

With a net worth of rupees 9,900 crores, she’s the product manager of Zoho mail since 2007. A graduate from the premier IIT Madras, this 48-year-old billionaire holds the majority of stakes in Zoho mail. Under her wise guidance, Zoho mail became one of the top five business email services globally in competition with Google and Microsoft.
