New Delhi or Old Delhi- there’s always a fresh enthusiasm for something rave and when not, then dull or outright stupid. Virat Kohli might disappoint you on some occasions but this city won’t. It never will. Always looking for trouble and for divergent ways in which to make headlines, this is a city that can create news even whilst snoring.
So recently when Mr. Manish Sisodiya, the deputy chief minister ordered an enquiry into a Safdarjung Enclave tomb, part of Humanyupur village, that had been allegedly converted into a temple- heads were turned. Although, carrying the customary glare of having found something daft. Surely, it ought to be said, there’s this daftness about the city that will never cheat out on its intrepid believers.
Of late, it seems, Delhi has the bombast of bewilderment that one finds in Harry Potter series or fiction pieces where zombies run civilian lands. People may be short on cash, but will never be short on impatience and temper. Foul language runs deep as free flowing rivers oozing gold. And this latest incident, that actually compelled the deputy chief minister to order an enquiry into something illogical; why would you convert a tomb into a temple- confirms the notion that megalomaniacal minds constantly indulge with newfound reasons to convince people that stupor and foulness can be lived with. Rather, can be treated as life long assets.
The Delhi administration has asked the Art, Culture and Language Department to submit a report on the aforementioned matter by Saturday. Following his direction to call an enquiry, Mr. Sisodia, was also seen interacting with the media wherein he shared,” It is the duty of the state Archeology Department to ensure the protection of heritage monuments listed under them and take strict action in case of a lapse.”
But to be honest, you have to ask yourself- are you really that surprised? This is Delhi, remember? Girls are objects here and losing temper is an everyday addition to one’s resume. Metro rail is another spittoon in making. What are dustbins, they ask as life seems complete with presence of having cleaned up a recycle bin. You could be killed for creating a ruckus on things like parking your car in someone else’s parking. While the moral compass of the city has so often jostled with incidents of aggravated crime and occurrences of intolerance, the case of a tomb being converted to a temple carries a new whiff.
Anyways, it will be great to know who were the culprits. It might offer us the uniqueness in knowing what mammals on earth carry the intellectual virtuosity of converting a religious symbol into being another persons’ pillar of faith?
