With much of 2020 being spent in despair with the stingy Coronavirus causing mayhem and leading to casualties all around the world, has much changed in 2021 despite this being a year where there is now a feasible solution in the form of the vaccine? While there were no fewer than 1,50,000 reported deaths in the country in 2020, a period wherein the virus emerged, peaked and became a giant killer, there was widespread concern across India as one would understand.
In fact, as a matter of fact, even as India has laudably developed an effective vaccine under the benevolent aegis of the Bharat Biotech, the Covaxin, which carries an 81 percent effectiveness, the rising rate of COVID cases of late have led to concerns.
While the states of Maharashtra and Kerala were stymied with a sudden spike of COVID 19 cases, it appears there’s another massive region that’s gotten hold of the rancid trouble again!
In the recent times, there have been cases in the northern state of Punjab, a key component of India’s agricultural output and one of the most industrial states in the country.
In fact, believe it or not, the situations of late have been so dire that calls have emerged for an independent investigation into the origin of the COVID 19 cases again in Punjab.
Where it stands as of now, then a group of scientists have called for an intense examination into the source of the pathogen, whether or not it has emerged from an animal considering all hypothesis.
What’s caused concerns is that a recent Bloomberg report suggested that a surge in daily cases have triggered a second wave of the COVID 19 virus. So is trouble still brewing in different parts of the country, as from a global standpoint, the virus went past 115.5 million cases (and still continues to spread around)?
What must be given due consideration is the fact that in the recent times, there have been 818 new cases in Punjab, 11 of which have led to deaths.
A quick update from one of the most widely read and respected national dailies The Hindustan Times happened to share:
Punjab on Friday recorded 818 fresh Coronavirus disease cases and 11 more deaths and 400 recoveries. The caseload has climbed to 186,189 while the recoveries stand at 173,630, according to the state health department’s bulletin.
Moreover, the overall death toll in India stands at 1,57,548. It’s open to debate whether one considers this figure ‘normal’ or ‘troublesome.’
Globally, however, the COVID 19 pandemic has led to 2.5 million fatalities. And at present, there are no fewer than 11.17 million cases in India.
