Delhi is a city that loves to eat, shop and do both, whilst expressing itself unabashedly. Right? Wrong? There’s more to Delhi than meets the eye. Let’s not get to crime or the aspect of respect to women for we know it’s an endless mess and for the sheer concern about inciting a riot. There’s another chaos about Delhi that we are aware of but are perhaps continuously failing to improve. So what is it? Pollution in Delhi, what else?
And to make things worse, whenever the winter season approaches, this issue only gets heightened and is felt with not such a rich aplomb. So that told, if in case, anyone wanted to know the impact of pollution in Delhi and just what it brings about especially during winters- yes the season where we enjoy chai, lazing out, yawning at work for the simple lackadaisical bliss that the winter warm induces- then perhaps asking a simple question related to everybody’s favorite winters might suffice.
Ever thought about that? Well, there’s always a first time, right?
Here’s how things have changed, provided if you and I cared to investigate in the simplest of manners.
Once upon a time, the question was:
“When are the winters going to arrive.”
Today, the question could well be:
“Is the winter tyranny given the menacing pollution, smog, et cetera going to end, and if so, then when?”
To make things easier, it remains to be seen that with the rapidly deteriorating air quality, it is what it is with the capital city already overburdened with several civic issues, not to forget traffic, an all-time table topper, just where’s the city going? Just where is the fun in enjoying the winters? Okay, the latter was a bit severe, wasn’t it?
Anyhow, to state the fact simply, here is what is worrying about these Delhi winters and something that may not immediately improve.
It was reported, that the air quality index in the national capital is plummeting to being poor having been moderate. In the coming days, it is said that the minimum temperature recorded in Delhi is going to be around 5 degree Celsius. Furthermore, the often oscillating weather conditions might actually make the ‘maximum’ temperature increase to 19 degrees.
And that is not all. Certain states, connected to Delhi, such as Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir are also going to evidence some snowfall in the forthcoming days. So does that mean that the coming days, therefore could send Delhi into a chilling tizzy?
Well, let’s wait and watch and therefore, duck under our warmest attires!
To elaborate further, owing to this condition, as many as 16 trains have already gotten affected particularly due to fog and hence, poor visibility in the city.
In its report on the city’s deteriorating air quality and the ensuing weather mess of Delhi when compared to the other cities, famous news platform India Today shared the following:
The Air Quality Index (AQI) this morning was 258 at Anand Vihar, 237 at IGI airport and 190 at Lodhi road. All those numbers fall in the ‘poor’ or ‘moderate’ ranges.
An AQI between 100 and 200 comes under ‘moderate’ category, 201 and 300 is considered ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’, while that between 401 and 500 is ‘severe’.
