Originally, the lockdown across the region of Delhi NCR was to have ended with normal routine lives resuming starting April 26, 2021. But in the light of the catastrophic events that have recently shuddered Delhi to a state of standstill, a decision has been taken by the Kejriwal Government to extend the lockdown by another week.
Now, this brings us to a vital question. Just what is the death toll owing to the dreaded Coronavirus situation as on date?
As a matter of fact, from the onset of April 20 to 21, 2021- Delhi recorded 249 deaths within a span of 24 hours. And as per the current tally, there are no fewer than 27,000-28,000 fresh COVID cases as a result of which the country’s national capital is rattled for the lack of better expression.
It wasn’t that long ago in the past where CM Kejriwal joined in an important meeting to discuss the state of affairs prevalent in New Delhi hospitals where joining in were CM’s of no fewer than 10 other states. Importantly, the key political heavyweight of India, the honourable Prime Minister too was a participant to the meeting with the core idea being to involve the Pradhan Sevak of the country in a bid to find meaningful solution regarding the ensuing chaos in Delhi’s leading hospitals.
Even as on date, prime hospitals are dealing with a dearth in oxygen supply, a situation so dire that as on April 24, 2021 as many as 25 patients gasped to their deaths resulting from short supply of oxygen.
That being said, in his national address to the denizens of Delhi, CM Kejriwal shared that the lockdown has been extended by another week since the situation surrounding “Coronavirus still continues to wreck havoc!”
But with the coming of the news of a lockdown comes the trouble surrounding the countless livelihoods that suffer as a result of non access to work; how will the common man feed his or her family, what about making ends meet?
To that end, please be informed that due care is being taken by the ruling Delhi government in the form of concessions- as planned- to be given to those employed in courier services, as well as self-employed services such as those working as electricians, plumbers, water purifier repairers.
Meanwhile, here’s what the New Delhi-based NDTV had to report on the following matter:
There is 36 per cent to 37 per cent positivity rate, which was not there before, the Chief Minister said.
On Thursday, the city had recorded a positivity rate of 36.24 per cent — the highest since the pandemic reached. While it dropped to 32.27 per cent last evening, the number of fatalities reached a record high of 357.
The number of cases, though, dropped from last week’s 28,000-plus a day to over 24,000 — a high caseload that has kept the city’s hospitals at a breaking point, with a galloping crisis of beds, drugs and oxygen.
To conclude, while many of us would simply dread the idea of being locked in the homes and being bunked in, sensibility dictates to tread with caution and exercise self-control. Being vigilant in these testing times might well be the right way to go if the world is to beat the dreadful pandemic. Don’t you think so?
