Vaccine, vaccine everywhere, yet no respite for anyone to see!
Don’t think of the above as a senseless one-liner or some ill-fated random joke. It is the truth, it seems, at least, at this point in time.
In what strikes as a bit of a surprising news, it appears there is a fresh spike in COVID cases in Delhi, the national capital, after quietness and normalcy loomed large for days together in the recent past.
So what’s the situation right now and just what is the fresh spike in COVID cases in Delhi?
During the early hours of February 27, 2021, it was reported that as many as 256 new COVID cases broke out in New Delhi. In the recent days, there haven’t been too many cases as such in the country’s national capital with all the attention resting with the region of Maharashtra regarding fresh Coronavirus cases.
But that said, what’s making news in Delhi is that, in the last 24 hours, there’s even been a casualty with one confirmed death owing to the COVID 19 virus. On the brighter side, there have also been recoveries that measure up to 193 cases.
Now that being said, what appears slightly disconcerting is when one takes into consideration the COVID 19 situation of the past 35 days. The outbreak of 256 fresh cases means that this has been the highest spike in a single day considering the data of a period little over a month in 2021.
Additionally, here’s what prominent news platform Hindustan Times had to report on the situation in Delhi:
Further, Delhi’s Covid-19 test positivity rate has also increased gradually over the past few days, hitting 0.41% — the highest recorded in the Capital since January 29. Friday’s positivity rate was nearly double the 0.22% recorded in the city two weeks ago. Delhi conducted 62,768 tests, as per Friday’s bulletin, of which 41,775 used the gold standard RT-PCR method, while the rest used the rapid antigen method.
The seven day average positivity rate – calculated on the basis of the number of tests and cases over the last seven days – has also increased to 0.30%, up from 0.24% last week and 0.21% the week before that.
But that being said, there are other states too that seem to be grappling with fresh COVID 19 cases, alongside Maharashtra, such as- Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala. All of them, it appears, are battling a fresh spike in the infection.

Furthermore, this is what the World Health Organisation has to share in terms of the infection to be considered under control or limits:
To be sure, the World Health Organization recommends a rate below 5% for two weeks for an infection to be considered under control.
