Delhi, the National capital was covered with dense fog on Wednesday morning, officially welcoming the winter season. After a clear weather for the past few days, the temperature has taken a sharp dip, bringing a cool breeze to chill Delhiites.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 9.7 Degree Celsius, the lowest of the season and the maximum temperature is expected to go up to 28 Degree Celsius.
Visibility has dropped to disturbing levels due to the dense fog which has severely affected flight operations in Delhi. 300m visibility was recorded at Safdarjung area and 125m at Palam, which is relatively close to the Airport. Many flights have been rescheduled, if not cancelled.
Air Quality also took a plunge, however, the PM 2.5 and PM 10 levels were recorded above the normal limit.
Air Quality Index was recorded at 401 in Anand Vihar, 373 in Shadipur and 333 in RK Puram, 100 being the acceptable level.
Indian Meteorological Department has reported that the reason behind this dense fog is the low wind speeds and moisture in the air as on Tuesday, the highest wind speed was recorded at a mere 6 km/h.
Experts have also predicted that this heavy fog could may take a form of ‘Heavy Smog’ in the coming few days.
However, there is no winter without fog and unless you are travelling through Delhi-Noida or Delhi-Gurgaon expressway, you will have nothing to complain about.
