New Delhi: Ever since PM Narendra Modi launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on October 2, 2014, several efforts have been made at various levels to ensure the success of the government’s pet project.
In a bid to add feather to this ongoing cleanliness drive, DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) has started a new scheme. Under this, DMRC will install water ATMs (Mobile Water Vending Machine) at all its metro stations to provide purified drinking water to the travelers.
For this people have to just pay Rs 2 or Rs 5 and they can get 250 ml water or 1-litre water respectively. The service will begin from Monday (29 February) on 28 metro stations of Delhi and NCR. In the first phase, 80 machines will be installed in the premises of the stations.
DMRC, which falls under Ministry of Urban Development, on February 18 had granted the permission to Abhyuday Automation Concept and Private Limited to install the Water ATMs.
With this process, Delhi-NCR has become India’s first and World’s second place where bottle less water is provided to people via Water ATMs.
The ATM is a water tank filled with mineral water. It is placed over an e-rickshaw. The tank is fully automatic and has pre-fixed sensors.
If you put Rs 2 in the machine, 250 ml of water will dispense in your plastic glass. Similarly, 1-litre water will dispense off if you put a 5 Rs coin. However, for this you have to bring in your own bottle.
