A brand new month of a brand new year and things don’t really seem all that pretty for the city of New Delhi. And just why is that? Well, familiar troubles, what else! The COVID cases in the city just don’t seem to come down. This is when the national capital has seen quite a widespread vaccination drive in these times where the pandemic with the number of COVID cases in Delhi still causing furore.
As a matter of fact, as on April 2, 2021, nearly no fewer than 49, 471 people received their first shot of the vaccine in the capital city. Moreover, as of the last Wednesday, i.e., 31 March 2021, around 25, 282 people were admitted in the city.
With a change in the inclusion criteria of those who are to be administered the vaccine, 45 being the age, an additional 65 lakh people are now eligible to get the vaccination. Though, what’s also important to note is that thus far, 13.3 lakh people have already been given, at least, a single shot of the vaccine.
In lines with the above, here’s what the Indian Express had to note on the issue: Most beneficiaries did not complain of glitches while registering on the Cowin portal or at hospitals, unlike in mid-January when the vaccine rollout began and saw many complaints of the portal hanging.
But then where is the trouble where it comes to the COVID cases in Delhi? Where it comes to the past forty eight hours (48 hours) that Delhi has recorded 3,500 new COVID cases. Moreover, that’s not all; there have also been ten (10) more deaths.
And Delhi’s positivity rate has mounted to 4.48% from 4.11%. This number has sprung to life where there has been a massive surge in COVID cases in Delhi in the past few weeks.
At this point in time, the city has been desperately searching for a major reprieve or breather of sorts with Delhi reporting quite a lot of cases as on the last Friday. So what was the tally that it is making news?
As of the last Friday, i.e., April 2, 2021, there were 3,594 fresh COVID cases in Delhi, to speak of exact numbers.
That being said, here’s what Live Mint had to say on the matter:
On December 8, last year, the city had recorded 3,188 cases and 2,706 on December 6.
According to the latest bulletin, 10 more people died due to the disease, taking the toll to 11,060, it said.
The number of active cases rose to 12,647 from 11,994 a day before.
All of that being said, it can be maintained that there could be a bit of a discussion pervading in the air of the city as to what might happen in the immediate future of the national capital. And with the COVID cases in Delhi rising in the last few hours, there’s hardly a surprise as to what might the ongoing discussion be focused on.
“Will or will there not be another lockdown in the city?”
To that end, here’s what one needs to know. Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal has already ruled out the possibility of another lockdown in the city. So what does this mean- is there no need to worry about COVID cases in Delhi and that all’s well or that the situation still needs a bit of monitoring before a word of certainty can be believed?
