It is a start-up based in the United States that’s creating incredible news around the world. It’s a visionary idea that, truth be told, is more than just some excellent brand; its reach is going to turn the world into an oyster of electric mobility or so they say. Lucid Group inc is not your average joe in the world of electric cars. It’s going to go places, as it already is, where few have ventured before or can.
And as a matter of fact, as of this last Tuesday, i.e., 28 September 2021, Lucid declared something that many may simply feel, as of now, to be irrationally exuberant. But one dare say, it’s poised to be a game changer in no uncertain terms.
Where it stands at the moment, then the Lucid Air Dream edition, one of the head turners from the Alameda County-based company has already received a massive approval rating of 520 miles from the American government.
If in case one was wondering what that translates to then it must be noted that it is a range of 837 kilometres in one single charge.
That’s not all, though.
In the next two years, Lucid is targeting to ramp up the production capacity of its Arizona factory targeting to deliver 90,000 cars per annum.
Do the simple math and it says by the conclusion of 2023, where it stands at the moment, Lucid would produce 1,80,000 cars provided its plans to ramp up production goes according to plans.
If that’s not a major challenge posed at Tesla, then one wonders, what is?
That being said, what do American publications say about the ambitious plans of the carmaker behind pure-electric and high-performance machines?
The following are the inputs that were published in Business Today:
The top-end Lucid Air Dream Edition will be available in late October, followed by less expensive models: Grand Touring, Touring and Air Pure. The company said it has received more than 13,000 reservations for Lucid Air models, and it has increased the planned total production of the Lucid Air Dream Edition to 520 vehicles.
A version of the Lucid Air Dream Edition, priced at $169,000, received an official U.S. government rating of a 520-mile (837 km) driving range, over 100 miles more than its closest rival, Tesla’s Model S, which is priced at $89,990. The higher range helped lead to a 23% jump in Lucid’s shares this month.
Speaking at the production site, Lucid Chief Executive Officer Peter Rawlinson, a former chief engineer on the Tesla Model S, said his company’s cars have an advantage in battery technology and costs over the Model S.
“We’ve ridden customers of the fear of range anxiety,” he said. “The next big obstacle is cost effectiveness of electric cars. We’ve got to get the cost down.”
He said the Air Pure, the least expensive version with a price tag of $77,400, will go into production late next year.
The above told, how might Tesla respond to the challenge will form a key determiner in the massively competitive electric car space. It’s a fragment of peerless engineering and boundless creativity where India too has stepped up the game thanks to start ups like Pravaig Dynamics, based in Bangalore.
