Even as it may not have reached the dealerships and outlets out there and may still very much be in the development stage, Ola’s electric scooter has already gained much traction and has created an imprint of curiosity in the minds of the countless few who wait with bated breath the arrival of this revolutionary product.
Where it comes to the forever-busy and often cluttered two-wheeler market space in India, then the Ola E-Scooter is creating the right kind of buzz at the present moment.
As they say, it’s not the arrival as such but the spark you create in the moments before it, that truly counts! Ditto for Ola!
Even as the exact date of its arrival hasn’t yet been confirmed, it can be said with much clarity that Ola’s electric scooter is approaching- where current news updates stand- the final leg of the product development.
Now while surely in a crowded and exceedingly competitive auto market like India its cars that often turn out to be the hotseller, there’s no denying the rational importance and growing popularity of the offerings in the sustainable or green space.
Look wherever you may wish to and you’d find the principles of green technology and sustainable design being incorporated ever so swiftly regardless of whether one talks about four-wheelers (sedans, MUVs, SUVs, minivans) or the two wheelers (bikes, scooters).
The need to walk the long mile down the sustainability road being more important today than it was ever in the past, innovators everywhere are joining the chorus to transform the new, evolving auto market.
Even Tesla, the world’s most prominent carmaker, entered India, inside the course of the last few weeks. How could local, homegrown brands then lag behind, one might ask?
Hence, while you have exceedingly bright make-in-India startups like Pravaig focused on the four-wheeler space, further disruption in the two-wheeler segment seems to be on the cards with the forthcoming arrival of Ola’s electric scooter.
That said, here are further details based on the product style, design and philosophy as reported in a recent HT Auto media report:
As the external appearance suggests, Ola’s upcoming electric scooter will come based on Etergo’s Appscooter, a Netherlands-based company that was acquired by Ola previously. The scooter will have a claimed range of 240 km but the Indian-spec model is rumored to have a lower full charge range. While the technical details on the scooter are scarce at the moment, it is said to feature a removable battery set up.

Ola plans to manufacture the scooter at its upcoming $330 million mega-factory in the Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu. This facility has been claimed to be the world’s largest e-scooter plant. To keep the overall costs in check, Ola is designing, engineering and manufacturing its own battery pack, motor, vehicle computer and software.
Moving on, as revolutionary as the brand in itself, what’s rather interesting is that the forthcoming Ola scooter factory will actually field no fewer than 3,000 robots. That’s in addition to 10,000 workers who shall be working in tandem. If that’s not indicative of a bright sparkling future in the promising two-wheeler space in India, then what is?
