President Barack Obama shared a video of Alex, reading his letter that he wrote to the President after watching the heartbreaking images of Omran Daqneesh, a five-year-old boy in Aleppo, Syria, who was sitting in an ambulance after being rescued from Syria and was in shock as he tried to wipe the blood from his hands.
Alex is just six years old and lives in Scarsdale, New York. He asks Obama if he could bring Omran to their home so that they can live together and be a brother to him and his sister Catherine who would be collecting butterflies and fireflies for Omran. He says that they’ll give him a family and will be waiting for them with flags, flowers and balloons. His little sister will share her big blue stripy white bunny and he would share his bike with him too as well as teach him to ride it as Omran won’t be having any toys.
The President recited this entire letter at the United Nations summit on refugees and said, that this young child has not learned to be doubtful or fearful or suspicious of other people because of how different they are from them or how they pray or how they look. He also added that imagine the suffering that we all could ease if we start thinking like little Alex.
